I think the house has to be owned, not rented. From lsu.edu, the list of exemptions include:

Reside with parent or legal guardian within a 50-mile in-state radius of campus
Documentation to provide: None. Your ZIP code autopopulates into the housing exemption request.
Reside in a property within a 50-mile in-state radius of campus that is owned by, but not occupied as a primary residence, an immediate family member (parent, legal guardian, or grandparent) with a bill of sale prior to October 1, 2017
Documentation to provide: Bill of sale
So who's going to live in all those apartments they've built/are building on Burbank near Lee?

Closer to $800 since you basically live there mid August to mid December in the fall.
Same with mid January to mid May in the Spring.

Pretty sure this was a rule when I went in '95. I loved dorm life except those stupid fire drills.

Yeah the meal plan is always what made living on campus so damn expensive.
And yeah if you break it down, it's probably a normal expense, but it's hard for a lot of people to front that cash at once

Yep. Those first two semesters set you back around $11,000 in room and board for only 9 months.
Much cheaper to get some roommates and have a rent share of $6000 for 12 months. And the food budget can dribble out over time and pay as you go.
