LSU Construction Interview Day CID
Searched previous threads and found pretty good answers but I feel that my situation is unique to the experience. I've been working as an apm for a fairly large sub contractor for almost two years now and have 2/6 courses down for the Post Baccalaureate Certificate in CM. Are most of the participating companies looking to hire interns or full-time positions? Also, have tried contacting the career center and Emailing careers2geaux help, etc. but haven't been able to get in contact with anyone about the steps I need to take to participate in this construction interview day. Deadlines are approaching and I'd like to get my resume out there or whatever may be required. Are there out of state companies at the event because I am extremely mobile and comfortable with the idea of experiencing life outside of Louisiana. Any of you baws have any experience with this?

eta: FWIW graduated from LSU with a degree in Finance, worked in the field for about a year and hated it. Worked a specific niche construction for the majority of my young life before catching a break and getting on with my current company. Have joined the Construction Student Organization and make the drive after work when they have meetings or socials. Getting married this year and just looking to provide a better platform for my future and increase my earning potential.

We do demolition and selective build back along most of the gulf coast. Commercial, Heavy Civil and select Industrial jobs.

Go to the college of engineering office or CM office and talk to someone personally

Had plans of doing this but getting a day off of work during the week when someone would be in there office seems about as hard as getting in touch with someone from LSU, with knowledge of the situation, on the phone or by email.

Go to the CID page on the Career Center's website
CID Page

And email the General Information contact guy on the right side rather than just emailing the career center's general email account. He will respond and get you set up for the event.

Is this a lot of local companies? Just finished up the PBCM and while I have a job working with a medium sized sub, the pay isn't great plus id like to work with a general. The wife pretty much limits me to the north shore, new orleans area due to her being vested at her job.

Is it worth it to make the trek? Hate to take a day and waste it.

frick construction. It's a dog eat dog world. Go get your certificate to be an insurance broker. If you have half a personality you'll be making bank in 10 years. You'll thank me later.

Ya, I went to an interview at an insurance company before I started this pbcm mess and working in construction.

Id rather hit my hand with a hammer everyday of my life than be one of you dirt bag insurance pos people. Literally had to take a shower when I got home adter all the cheesiness and hair gel from the douchbags at the insurance company.

Oh and they called me like 10 minutes adter my interview and offered me a job. I declined.

shite your backstory sounds just like mine. Finance degree, fricking hated it, and became an APM with a sub. But I'm doing commercial and heavy civil highway electrical work in Houston now. If your wife can find a way to move, fricking move. Construction is soooo much better in Texas pay wise.

She's a teacher so she's open to moving with me to set ourselves up better down the road. Definitely mobile before we have kids.
