If you replace them every New Year’s Day you shouldn’t have that problem.

Ah! There's my problem! I was replacing them on Groundhog's day.

Mine are all just about 10yrs old and are starting to chirp ONCE randomly at night (just a single chirp then quiet). This results in me awake in bed anticipating another chirp and unsure which is the culprit.

Need to start replacing them.

There is - Nest Protect. I replced all of mine a few years back and haven't had a problem since. I used to have this happen all the time.

Always. Especially when it’s the one on the 12 foot ceiling and the big ladder is in the outside shed.

Change the batteries twice a year to be safe.

This is just a ploy by the Big Battery industry to sell more batteries. Don’t fall in line, sheep.

Why do these things always happen in the middle of the night?

Ghosts have the hot hand on the OT tonight, I'll pick them.

I once went to view a house for sale and the smoke detector was chirping the whole time. It was inside the master bedroom just above the door and within arms reach. A little annoying, but I figured it must have started while the owners were at work and they would get it when they got home.

We ended up making an offer on the house and went back a week later for the inspection. When I walked in, the same goddamn smoke detector was still chirping. The whole time I couldn't think of anything but how these psychos went (at least) a week with this thing going off the whole time in their bedroom while they slept (I confirmed they had been home, not on vacation, etc.). I ended up not buying the house, but I still wonder how long that went on before they decided enough was enough.
