Just because some people smoke their whole lives and don't get cancer, doesn't mean smoking can't lead to it.

Exactly. So what you're telling me is that you see the correlation between smoking and cancer, because of what you see and read, and the mountain of evidence proving the causation.

Your point about "not everyone who smokes will get cancer" is akin to what we're saying that "not every pit will attack a human". But if a dog attack happens, the overwhelming likelihood is that it's going to be a pit bull, a point also proven by a mountain of evidence.

Exactly my point.

It's the dogs that have shitty owners who are the ones you hear about.

It may offer you some comfort in knowing that your dog owning skills likely have nothing to do with triggering the dog to attack.

And I don't entirely blame the dog either...because that's just the way that animal is.

To the earlier point, if people commonly held mountain lions as pets, and they started mauling people I wouldn't blame the lion. I'd blame the idiot that thought they were not a dangerous animal.

You realize other dogs attack more than pits? It's just not reported bc they're usually little superficial scratches and shite.

Doesn't excuse that pitbulls are more harmful when they attack, just saying.

I will pose this question again....

What purpose does this breed accomplish that keeps us from neutering and spaying it onto extinction?

If this was a product it would be recalled and discontinued.

No reason to keep breeding a breed that is 7 times more likely to be involved in a fatal attack than any other breed.

So in the insane number of attacks/maulings/killings involving pit bulls, you guys know the owners were terrible how exactly?

I've missed that in many of the recent cases...this one included. And with the last one where the 20 something year old woman was torn apart by her two pit bulls (who were also "super cute and nice" according to her friends).

And I know I'm beating a dead horse here, but are you claiming that shitty people ONLY own pit bulls? If so, I'd be curious to see the data to support that.

So if there is no data on this, how can you confidently claim it?

I'm assuming he meant "kills or maims" when he said "attacks" which is what people care about, which is why we are having this discussion.

They're actually very smart and very lovable dogs. But none of y'all would know bc y'all only go by articles y'all read that are put out when they attack.

Never mind the reasons that make them good dogs, it doesn't fit y'alls narrative.

That really doesn’t help your case.

The owner of the dog in the story this thread was created about felt exactly about pit-bulls as you do right up until the time he had to stab the dog to death.

I suspect he probably won’t own another pit-bull.

No amount of “reasons” can overcome the fact that they on a regular basis kill and seriously injure people.

There's plenty of data on it, but, as I said, it doesn't fit y'alls narrative so y'all don't seek it...here, take a look...

There are plenty other breeds that are smart and lovable That you can own. The risk does not outweigh the reward.

Again, 7 times more likely to be involved in a fatal attack....the breed should be discontinued for public safety.

Did you read this article? Not only did the owner say the dog had never been aggressive before but the neighbor said what a great dog it seemed to be. There is no evidence to say he was a shitty dog owner.

But there is evidence to make the claim he was a shitty parent.
