The murder rates are just for the city proper. This goes for all cities on the list.

Positive. As for Jefferson Parish, JPSO reported 19 homicides in 2024 for unincorporated JP (Metairie, River Ridge, Elmwood, Jefferson, Marrero, Terrytown, Harvey, Waggaman, Woodmere and Lafitte). This doesn't Gretna, Harahan, Kenner, or Westwego as those municipalities have their own police force and stats. Couldn't find the stats for them but I'm assuming Kenner had a few. Gretna may have had 1 or 2 considering they get some spillover crime from Algiers.

JPSO crime stats for 2024

murder rate

I wish they'd stop this murder "rate" thing and just give us actual numbers.
That would give a better representation since most murders are concentrated in the same bad areas of the city.

The per capita "rate" numbers are skewing the danger level.
There's some political math going on here.

The current population of Louisville, Kentucky is around 620,004
Louisville had 141 murders last year

The current population of New Orleans is around 383,997
New Orleans has 124 murders last year

Louisville is 1.6 times the size of New Orleans, yet only had 17 more murders in 2024!

That’s incorrect for Louisville. They don’t calculate statistics for just “city limits” here. It’s Louisville Metro (Downtown plus majority of Jefferson County).

The ICE branch that covers all of Kentucky and a chunk of Southern Indiana is based in downtown Louisville.

You'll find the murder rate here is by and large in the West End. Which is by majority Black (not immigrant). Louisville as a city is pretty segregated.

Shively?

Also,

Are the numbers skewed due to Louisville being a consolidated Metro?

Say what you want about all 10 cities. But Chicago is a war zone. Esp south Chicago.

Well, I'm sure there's a Louisville metro also.

quote:

As of 2023, the population of the New Orleans metropolitan area was estimated to be 962,165..

quote:

Louisville metropolitan area had a population of 1,395,855 in 2020 according to the latest official census, and its principal city is Louisville, Kentucky.

So, Louisville metro is still 1.45 times the size of NOLA metro....

Louisville as a city is pretty segregated.

Louisville is 23% black while New Orleans is 50-55% black.
