people like this and also able bodied people that receive government assistance should have to put in time picking up trash and cleaning up the community.

There is absolutely no reason Louisiana should be a trash filled shithole. Maybe if some of these people would have to pick up trash they would learn not to throw it on the side of the road.

A lot of people just flat out refuse to work or make payments. They continue to drive and break the law because they know that most judges are not going to put them in jail for just owing money.

You are hell bent on throwing people in prison huh? Because that makes economic sense.

You should do a FOIA request for how the Avoyelles DA's office was constructed. The prior DA (one Jerold Edward "Eddie" Knoll) had some unique ways of cutting costs.

Not really. If they don't pay up, they should have the same consequences as me. This shouldn't be a question because it happens in every single courtroom in America

They do this in Jackson but it's worse because of inflated court costs.

I've seen defendants have court costs for misdemeanors total over 8k and the judge says they can either go to jail or work for the city for free.

Attorneys have already filed suit.

You do what every other reasonable judge does and order community service. It is impossible to find work that disabled or unhealthy people cannot do.

Tate v Short held that it is a denial of equal protection when those with money can pay to avoid jail and those who can't get jailed.

Small government conservatives love having government lock people up in cages. Dont want to go to jail? Don't go anywhere or do anything ever. There's ways to incur fines at your home as well so maybe don't have a home. Being homeless can probably get you fined so really just kill yourself and you'll be free.

Tell me something. Let's say the tickets and fines are $250. So the Government is looking to gain that much. The offender can't pay. So they throw him in jail and incur costs of at least $25 a day that they will never recoup.

Have the brokedick pick up litter on the side of the road for a few weekends.

There are probably some of that bunch that need to be in jail but otherwise it is really dumb. Garnish their wages or seize it from their income taxes. Otherwise I wouldn't really call it a debtors prison. These are fines for violations of the law, a debtors prison was if I go to jail for not paying my Discover card statement.
