Looks like he enjoyed life.

Ron Glass guest starred in my favorite All In The Family episode, "Everybody Tells The Truth". Various Rashomon-like perspectives show him as a regular guy, an Uncle Tom, and an overbearing militant.

He was one of those guys who brought a subtlety to these roles - never phoned it in. Like his Ron Harris character on Barney Miller - the well dressed, sophisticated urbanite who brought a lot of class to the working class squad room - but he could go ghetto in a second if the situation warranted.
And, his performance as Shepard Book in Firefly - he really grounded the entire show as it's mysterious religious leader.
RIP.

My favorite episode of Barney Miller was when Ron Glass' character was depressed and got drunk before coming to work. As he poured out a $1000 bottle of wine, he slammed home a cheap bottle of wine. They take his gun and later in the episode, he reaches into his empty holster to shoot an annoying guy.
