I'm just going by my experience, there are a lot of people arrested for things like theft, burglary, forgery, etc to obtain money for addictive drugs.
It's beyond obvious that MJ should be legal but the real discussion is regarding opiates.

And yet the sheriff and DA would never support it
Less arrests for mere possession = less money for prisons and fines = less budgets for law enforcement = less cops.
They and the propaganda they push are the reason the War on Drugs still exists.

No matter what happens with the user (regarding crime to obtain drugs) even legalizing hard drugs would end the black market, where most violence is conceived.

Does MJ have to be grown inside a grow house or can it grow outside? AKA - could all of our farmland around the state one day grow MJ?
Yes it can be grown outside. Inside allows you to controls variables and really create what you want

Have a lawyer friend in Colorado and she is saying the hardest thing there right now is where to put all the cash. Colorado will make so much money of this new law that other states will fall into place. But with the oil filed being here and the new safe gulf good luck with that.
Bottom line on this issue is tax revenue. Law makers love tax money. They really love sin tax revenue. As soon as our state legislators see the windfall Colorado reaps they will pass legalized pot in a flash.

I wouldn't bet on it. The money from marijuana sales wouldn't even be a drop in the bucket compared to the money that comes in from the O&G industry.

Yet they hold no responsibility if a cop dies because of it.

Need to stop the senseless incarceration of users (possession charges). Save millions monthly in jail ops budget.

Impossible to tell, but LA is a poor state. Like much of the south. Even $10 million in revenue could do wonders of good. But it'd be way, way more than that.

and your point? So since its not as much we should just say screw that?

When pot is decriminalized in Louisiana, it will be because the federal government finally caved.

I highly doubt it'll pass but it's high time to get started on this shite.
Merica.

Why couldn't a proposed legalization bill not include a stipulation that a percentage of tax revenue from MJ be funneled back to ole po-po to keep them happy?

It should be legal because we need money.
An Amsterdam set up in the Marigny and Bywater would be HUGE for tourism and tax dollars.

Not as long as the O&G industries continue drug testing. Many are going to hair follicle testing.

I know not one person who thinks it should be illegal. Now I've never had this discussion with anyone 60+ and everyone I've had this conversation with doesn't smoke.
