For the struggling, weak-minded, worrisome souls who turn from what Is to what man makes, I present your newest, worthless religion.

Ex Google files with IRS to Start Worshiping Computers

quote:

A former executive at Google has filed paperwork with the IRS to establish an official religion of technology. This religion doesn't just worship scientific progress, but artificial intelligence itself, with the goal of creating a godhead.

The new church of AI will aim "to develop and promote the realization of a Godhead based on artificial intelligence and through understanding and worship of the Godhead [to] contribute to the betterment of society," according to IRS documents.

The non-profit religious organization would be called "Way of the Future" (WOTF). According to the website (wayofthefuture.church), the movement is "about creating a peaceful and respectful transition of who is in charge of the planet from people to people + 'machines.'"

quote:

"Given that technology will 'relatively soon' be able to surpass human abilities, we want to help educate people about this exciting future and prepare a smooth transition," the site explains. "In 'recent' years, we have expanded our concept of rights to both sexes, minority groups and even animals, let's make sure we find a way for 'machines' to get rights too."

Oh, L. Ron. See what you've started? Stay on guard friends. You may think this is comical, but this is how lives can be ruined.

Just hoping we have a nice transition to sexbots before they decide to eradicate us from the planet.

the chances of events happening as indicated in the bible are no more outlandish than what scientology claims. or the ancient greek gods, hindu, etc... every single one lacks concrete evidence. hence the term faith. people who believe in any religion have no business bashing any other religion. its all a money grab.

Serious question. Do you think the guys developing AI consider it potentially dangerous at all? And if yes, are they just forging ahead because they don’t care or for what reason?

Absolutely. You can go down a fun rabbit hole reading articles published on the dangers and cautions of AI development.

Maybe I, Robot (Will Smith movie version) is coming true.

V.I.K.I. has taken over at Google. Dude forming the religion is like Dr. Lanning-- V.I.K.I. has him prisoner and he knows he will probably be killed, but he's trying to get the word out.

Hold onto your butts.

Welcome my son, welcome to the machine
Where have you been?
It's alright we know where you've been
You've been in the pipeline, filling in time
Provided with toys and 'scouting for boys'
You brought a guitar to punish your ma
And you didn't like school, and you
Know you're nobody's fool
So welcome to the machine

I think the biggest argument is that L Ron Hubbard was a known lunatic. People remember him, we have footage of his lunacy at work. He was also accused of being a pedophile and drug addict.

And that doesn't even go into the fact that versions of his "origin story" can also be found in his science fiction writings from when he was a young man.

I won't even go into how the origin story is directly refuted by geological evidence.
