I usually toss them in the trash though. Contact/consultants are a little different. I realize it's not 1970 anymore but if you have jumped ship every 10 months and it's a pattern I won't bother.

If you are trying to get on at a company that does an extensive background check you better have all your dates accounted for and accurate. It was a pain in the arse for me trying to explain to them I worked for a foreign owned company that no longer existed and supervisors that lived in different countries I had no contact information for.

I agree but I’ve done it within the same company. Started at $620 a week in 2002 married my HR manager who was making $900 a week and from there it went up and up and up for both of us.

I have had 3 jobs over a 6 year period but each one was a promotion and increase in responsibility. Is that still going to look bad? Considering my most recent job “hop” was involuntary (lay-off) is that still the reason why I haven’t been getting any bites?

What’s sad is I don’t think it has changed much from what I was doing back then until now. It may be 10k more to start now but I’ve lost touch since I went from the service side to the sales side.

I think you need to understand that times are changing. It may not be depending on your industry, but for many positions, being somewhere for more than a few years is a bad sign.
My mom was appalled because her old boss of a decade plus was let go and his replacement was a woman whose longest stint at a company was 6 years. It's definitely a generation thing, because unless it's my business, I have no desire to work for any person or company for six years of my life.
Staying at one company for years on end shows that you are okay with being comfortable. Many employers see it as a liability.
And also, just FYI to the OP, as someone whose longest time on a job is right over 2 years, I'm just going to lie to you if I feel it's in my best interest. Employees don't get company loyalty, companies don't get employee loyalty. That's the way this works now. Get used to it.
