1300. Central AL to CO. I used to do it a lot. Also did CO to San Francisco.
I was poor and didn't want to pay for air travel during holiday trips. The straight through would get me home in a delirious state, but I'd be home.

Portsmouth NH to Baton Rouge LA - 22 hrs driving time.
Asheville to BR
Asheville to Milwaulkee
Lookin forward to a road trip to CO and points west either this year or next.
Driving beats getting molested by the TSA IMO.
It costs less too.
A decent car, a good audio system, healthy foods onboard and a plan make long drives go a lot smoother.
Protip: Depart on your trip at 3 am. Your first 5 hours on the road will be your fastest average, lightest traffic, and lowest stress driving. If you have kids, they'll sleep during that time which means no bathroom stops till they wake up. And as the sun comes up, you'll feel more awake.
I can drive further in one day that way vs leaving at 8 am.
The other cars on the road negatively affect average speeds. Which on a long drive has a major impact on travel time.
Early AM almost no cars. I typically drive in the right lane with cruise set to speedlimit+10 for hours.
Then as the day goes on I watch as my average steadily drops due to traffic, left lane blockers, and sometimes accidents.

15 hours tops. I could go farther, but unless in a deployed situation I don't torture myself.

quote:On road trips, this drives me absolutely fricking insane. One dude had the nerve to blast me with his wipers instead of getting over. I got in front of him and emptied my reservoir.
