Saw a Volkswagen Thing for sale the other day. Had kind of forgotten about those.

I drove one of those for work for a while. It was kind of fun, especially they way you can take the top down, the doors off, even lay the windshield down. You could simply hose it down to clean the interior. Like a Bug, it was not fast nor could the heater keep you warm in the winter -- and you wouldn't want to get in a wreck in one of those "things."

About 8 years ago, I bought and still own a 1986 Turbo 944 that looks similar to this. I think this photo is of one a few years newer than mine. I bought it in Houston but going through the documents that came with the car, I saw that it was originally purchased by Joe Cribbs in Alabama. He apparently bought it after he was able to successfully sue the Buffalo Bills to get out of his contract so he could play in the USFL. For those that don't know, the USFL was paying more than the NFL at that time and players were jumping ship. I saw an interview with him from a few years ago and he stated that he lives in Daphne, Alabama now. I thought about mailing him a picture of his former car but couldn't find his address in the public tax records.

My brother had one identical to this (you can tell it's a pre'74 by the rear quarter panel). By the time he drove it a year, it was down to 2 forward gears that operated...and we still loved it.

They had a gas fired heater in them...they really worked pretty well to produce heat...but they had a relay under the front hood that would continually kick off on ours.

I'm almost positive that's a Gran Prix. (My first car was a 71 Gran Prix)

The Dasher was my first car, but mine was green. It was an awful car, but it was so bad that out still brings back great memories for my friends and I.
