Anyone with experience with the design contest type websites? Cost?

What electronic file format(s) do I need to get from them to simplify the work of the clothing and printing vendors?

Or, should I just take a MS Paint version to a local vendor and let him work it up?

Will be low volume.

Fiverr.com

That would be your best bet.

your local print shop will have an artist on hand to handle this sort of thing. let them do it because they understand the process already. this is what I do every day, and I laugh at customers who use these websites for logos or design companies who charge a ton and then up having to pay me artwork fees anyway because it wasn't designed for print media and has to be completely reworked anyway. just start local and let them take care of you. it will cost you less in the long run, promise.

It amazes me that business owners try to go as cheap as possible for the look and brand of their business.

Go to a local design firm.

I forget the one I used but was very happy. I wish I had done some stuff diff with my logo and such but that is not their fault.

Once I decided on the winner they sent me a file with every imaginable format.

Find a company to use and send that file to them and you are done.

Yes, a local design firm. With a handful of designers. You will look at their portfolios and see that they have a ton of similar work.

Or you can pay 300 bucks and get about 50 fresh new approaches, turn around is instant, and interaction is quick and easy. You can tweak it as you want and things are great.

Local firms are way too expensive, and rolling the dice. Afterwards you are on the hook for thousands and you may never get to where you want to be.

Fiverr is hit or miss but misses cost nothing

Some of the branding that comes out of more robust firms is pathetic

This is basically true. But if you will put a bid out that is decent you can attract some of their better stuff.

If you pay 50 bucks, you are going to get less options. ....I dont know how fiverr works, but for place I used you could pay more or less.

You want scalable vector files.

Not all are equal. I received an Illustrator file recently that needed a ton of cleaning and organization.
