Best thing for a marriage is to keep separate bank accounts and share common expenses like room mates.....just like when you are living together.

My fiancee's mom was one of the biggest supporters of us moving in. She is a banker and didn't want us to waste money paying rent for 2 places when we stayed together 5-6 nights a week anyways.

You do realize what might work for you might not work for the next person right?

Pretty dumb to say that's the best thing for a marriage.

I have a good relationship with her parents. We've been together for 5 or so years now so they didn't care when we moved in (surprisingly). We basically explained the financial aspect of it.

when you buy a house make sure you can get a room or workshop. I call it my fortress of solitude. some times you just need to be left the frick alone.

Lived together off and on for a couple of months once we engaged, then 3 months straight after I left my apartment.

Then we decided to "separate" 2 months before the wedding date, which made us find out how much we liked being together. (no sex, talked mostly by phone and only had dinner dates a couple of times a week during those 2 months)

Geesh, it was "hard" figuratively and literally.

Pros - you get the puss on the regular

Cons - you get tired of the puss quicker due to already getting it on the regular

When my fiancée and I first met, I was a traveling consultant for Duke Energy. I was traveling around 6-8 months a yr, so never got an apartment after I sold my first house. When I was home, I'd just stay with her and her parents hated it. They got over it because there was no way I was going to pay for an apartment at home when I had to get an apartment wherever I was. Once I quit traveling, I got my own place, and now she stays with me. Her parents don't mind since she has a ring on her finger. Hell, she and her mom are going pick out plumbing fixtures today for the house that'll be ready a more than a month before we get married.

Yep. This is what we do and don't intend to change anything. We both work and have our "own" money. We both like to budget our own money so I think it would be weird for either of us to turn that over to the other person. And truth be told, I don't want to manage her money or worry about her buying shoes or clothes.

We'll have a joint account that we dump money into for savings, bills, travel, etc. The rest is for us to do what we want with.
