Living together before marriage

What are the pros and cons?
My beautiful fiance (shared pictures yesterday) and I moved in together over a year ago and everything has been smooth. I've been told, however, that living together before marriage leads to a greater chance of divorce but that doesn't make sense logically. It seems like a divorce can happen irrespective of the living situation prior to the marriage.
What say you? What was your situation like before marriage and how have things worked out?

I think it is a good idea to move in before marriage. Living with someone is an entirely different animal than just shacking up on occasion.

Pros: "test the waters"
Cons: it makes the wedding less substantial of a change. Week before marriage is the same as two weeks after. Then you're just back in the routine. Also, why give away the last months of freedom?

Pros: you find out she is crazy af early on and still marry her.

Pros: living together gives you all the advantages/disadvantages of marriage without the government contract.
Cons: if a marriage doesn't work out (which statistics show it prob won't) then you lose half your life, kids, and income losses you will never recover from. You'll also, depending on age, prob never retire.

Mine lived with me for over a year before we get married. Got divorced last may 3.5 years in.

The only way I would ever advocate living together is if you live in a high cost of living area (SF, NYC, DC, etc). Way too much can go wrong financially otherwise.
