I agree with your list. Alexandria food actually isn’t bad.

I’d kill for some eddies right now.

Man, you’ve got a huge career advancement opportunity 2 hours down the road. We’re not talking about you moving to the PNW or the Carolinas, we’re talking about 2 hours north on I49 in the middle of nowhere Louisiana.

Go live a little.

For food any of:

Lou and Lara’s
Lucille’s Red Kettle
Main Dish
Fatboy and Skinny’s
Outlaw’s
Eddie’s
Verona’s
Embers
Wildwood Pizza
Word of Mouth
Caro’s
Sombreros
Tunks
Spirits
Diamond Grill

For drinking I’d go with:

Spirits
Finnegan’s Wake
The Mirror Room Lounge

The Bentley Hotel is literally the classiest hotel outside of NOLA in the state. I’d put its lobby right up there with the Monteleone and Roosevelt.

Went there for my undergrad a while back, then worked at NSU before moving to LSU.

My wife is from there (strong accent) and my FIL teaches at NSU as well.

I'd move there again under the right circumstances with my two kids.

If you live in Scott, it is only a 2 hour drive, and you NEVER have to worry about traffic anywhere for any reason. Much slower pace overall.

Being from SLA and a food snob, the replies here are correct, but overall, it is a cool place to be for a few years.

haven't read all 5 pages and don't know if it's been mentioned yet...

but the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame is in Natchitoches... I need to go up there and see it

if you're a huge sports fan (which being on TD kinda shows that you are)... that should be a monthly visit I imagine

Outlaw’s
Eddie’s

1 of these is a sponsor of my job though I like the other's food better... therefore I won't say which is which

quote:

Wildwood Pizza

can finish in about 15 minutes... it's good stuff

It is a good and safe place to live if you have a family. Cost of living is not sky-high, easier pace of life, and traffic is likely nothing compared to what you are used to. If the money is right, and it answers your career, go for it! It is a really good area. Just don't live anywhere with the word East in the name and you should be ok.

What, Hank Williams, Jr. and Hurricane Chris?

Frick, even Ferriday had Jerry Lee Lewis, Mickey Gilley, and Jimmy Swaggart. It’s not like you’re Nashville.

ETA: I’m still waiting on those Shreveport recommendations, btw.

3 years is forever.

Try it. Meet people.

It has things I like.
One:
47' above sea level.

"Your" southernmost tier parishes may be under salt water when your grandchildren graduate.

You avoid hurricanes in any case.

In-laws live there ... if you're not afraid to get out and meet people, then you'll love it. There's always SOMETHING going on, and the people that live there use that as an excuse to get out and enjoy themselves

Went to undergrad and grad there. If I could have found a high paying job, I would still be there. If I stay in Louisiana, I might retire there!

A good place for a family with small children. Lots of festivals on the renovated river bank area. It is a small town, so not a lot of night life. Some good places to eat and not a long drive to bigger areas for more choices. If you like BBQ, Grayson's is only a short drive away.

Would definitely recommend NSU e-Lab, St. Mary's or Natchitoches Magnet for the kids.

Also, airports in both Alexandria or Shreveport with comparable drives. You can compare the fares and take the best for you.
