Well to be fair you do live in Alaska and you have the best of both worlds, fishing and hunting, just as we do down here. One big difference we can enjoy everything that region has to offer year round.
I Don't think I could really enjoy Alaska for more than just a few months.
Probably a lot of folks feel that way. I know some people who are intimidated by mountains or wilderness, or just bored by them. Everyone has their own tastes and value different things. I may not always understand, but can respect it to some degree.

I lived in Alaska for several years, it takes a special person to live up there year around and not go insane. Day to day life, you hardly notice the scenery. You become use to it. It's fun to go play in still though, but if you live up there, you aren't on vacation and you do what you would do basically anywhere and live life.

Winters are hard and can be unbearable for a lot of people. Cabin fever can be very real. Getting suited up just to go to the store is a pain in the arse.
Depends where you live. I couldn't live in Fairbanks, but love the coastal areas.

yeah, that wouldn't work for me. I'm too much of a busy body and always on the go. I feel guilty just laying around not doing anything while the sun is out. There already isnt enough hours in the day for me to do what I want and like to do.
My favorite saying on the weekends whether i'm home or at the camp....."c'mon people get movin, you burning daylight"
That wouldnt work half the year in Alaska, I would go crazy if the sun never came out

Myth. Shortest day in Anchorage you still get 5 hours of sunlight. Only above the arctic circle do you get sunless days, and only a few..unless you live in Barrow, or Prudhoe Bay. I have no interest in either.
Summer is actually worse. It doesn't get dark even though the sun sets. You have to force yourself to sleep.

I lived in Eagle River.

Not a bad place. I don't like S. Central AK, too many people but the weather is milder than Minneapolis. I lived in Big Lake and Palmer for a few years, but came back to Southeast. S.E. is the best part of the state. It's nothing like Anchorage.

Having lived 10 miles from the Gulf coast (Moss Lake, south of Sulphur, La) and now living in tornado alley (Huntsville, Al)...I'd prefer the coast/hurricanes. You have plenty of time to get ready for a hurricane. You have little time to get ready for a tornado.

Yeah I got to explore around Juneau and such some, nice area. Still no interest in returning.
I'd like to go somewhere out west to get back to big mountains, but ok with living on the edge of the Smokies for now. I agree with you, I can't take living in the flatland anymore, but my hobbies revolve around activities you do in mountains.

You could probably understand the value most people have for mountains.
Yes. I am glad some like the mountains, some like the marsh, some like the beach...could you imagine if we all lived together

Same. I need elevation for hikes. Hiking some flat trail in the woods would bore me. I need the challenge and satisfaction of making it to the top of the mountain.
Same with my husband and his mountain biking. That's his passion and I don't see him settling for a flat trail in the woods with a couple hills. To him that isn't real mountain biking.

With hurricanes you do have more time to prepare but the damage seems to be more wide spread. With a tornado you could go just a mile or two from a disaster area and everything looks normal. Technology does seem to be getting better with predicting tornado danger because they were talking about this storm late last week but for now I think I would rather take my chances with hurricane weather.

I'd much rather deal with hurricanes.
Living near the coast is awesome.
To have to deal with tornadoes on the reg you have to live in freaking Oklahoma through Nebraska or bumfrick Mississippi and Alabama. That's worse than the threat of tornadoes.

Mountains and sea, for me. I've got both, and am pretty happy with that.
No tornadoes, but do get hurricane force storms in the fall and winter.
