The average?? Just starting? Where did you get this idea from?
While possible, it's not practical.

75k is about the average mid-career salary for a financial analyst, for reference

Mid career. That's my point.

Not sure what age demographic you fall into or associate with, but several guys I know in my age group (mid to late 20's) all rushed to lease BMW's literally as their first car after getting their first job. None of them made a salary greater than $50,000. They did it solely for the status symbol. None of them found it foolish that they were spending 25% of their monthly income on their lease payments.
I'm 26. Yeah, that's extremely foolish. All of my friends drive trucks I guess.

Well if his social life involved doing an 8 ball a weekend, buying extravagant sports cars, constantly going on vacation, and being a douchebag in general, then yeah he can't afford that. But if you're just normal, want to have a good time, and live in a nice neighborhood, then 55K can buy that. Douche.
Sorry for partying old man.

and this year you recieved a 20k raise?
No, I get a monthly bonus. It's gone up since November of last year.

Well, prepare to make that 50K you were making fun of people for making, you stupid a-hole.
You understand I'm discussing what happened in my life 6 years ago, right?
So, while you had a witty response, it's a little too late to tell me what I need to expect out of life.

It depends on the company. My brother is that and makes 100k. He's been there 6 years

I have a few engineering friends that started at right around there.
I'm agreeing with you just saying it's not as impossible as you made it sound
Yeah, but the one friend I'm thinking of was a chemical engineering major. My next closest were accounting majors, and pretty much this season will be the end of their bitch work, and they'll get big promotions. My law/medical school friends are going to graduate in a month. It's just downright delusional if you think on average you should be making 80K after college. Seriously, why would there be a struggle to pay of student loans if the average graduate was making that kind of money?

Right, because a 50K truck in a city for a guy with no yard is such a better idea than a BMW.
What's it like to work 80 hours a week on the road all year making per diem by the way?

This thread is nuts. I hire college grads at $15/hr. Most aren't worth shite. Rude awakening these fools are in for indeed.

And you want me to believe that all of your friends your age started out with a salary of 80K

How is this thread still going?
Average starting salary in business for a grad with something decent to offer is 45-55k. There are exceptions such as consulting and IB, programming, engineering...but that's about it.
Salaries increase quickly once you have some experience. Making 100k by 30 is quite easy if you do alright in those 8 years between graduation and 30.

I got hired as an inside sales rep making 32k straight out of college in 2008. Cleared about 1800 per month. Thought I was on top of the world. Lol.
