Very sorry for your pain my brother, it’s extremely difficult to be the strong man but it’s our job. Anytime this thread pops up, my same recommendation is to have in-home euthanasia. You don’t have to bother loading them up to bring in on the cold table. They just lay in their favorite spot, even outside if you wish and are unaware of what’s going on. We fed ours his favorite, scrambled eggs, as he got his IM shot, I’m about to tear up now dang it. Hang in there my friend and blessings for your family

May not seem like it today but you were lucky.

Man I know exactly how you feel. Sorry, sadly those days creep up on us and we are never ready when it comes

Reading your post really tugged at my heart. It brought back the day I had to put my favorite pup down. I haven't been able to get another since. Hang in there.

Happy trails to your sweet Jovie! I bet she had a great life with you and your family.

She’s at peace. Here is a tribute I wrote for her.
Believe it or not, she was a Goldendoodle. We bought her at a deeply discounted rate because she didn’t look like one. We foolishly thought maybe she would grow into looking like one. At first we were disappointed when she didn’t, but as her personality emerged, we fell completely in love.
She was so intuitive at times it was almost spooky. For 15 years, she couldn’t stand to be more than a few feet away from us. She loved people, but especially adored older men. With over 15 years together, none of my kids can even remember a time when she wasn’t part of our family. She’s in the background of almost every memory we have.
We are heartbroken, but in this moment I feel more gratitude than sorrow. The greatest dog I’ve ever owned was also the one who lived the longest. It’s hard to ask for more than 15 years from a dog—that’s about all their bodies can give. In the end, she couldn’t see or hear, but her tail still wagged with contentment just to be near us.
It’s a hard chapter for our family to close, but we do so with deep thankfulness for a dog who gave us everything she had. The sorrows we face at the end are worth the joys they give us along the way. Dogs—and the friends they become—are one of the many reminders that God loves us deeply.

This place is not always a place to come for sympathy and encouragement. But when it comes to losing a pet you people shine. This thread has been very encouraging. Thank you for helping me through this awful morning.

I don’t know you and it’s highly unlikely I ever will. But you’re a good guy.
Condolences to you and your family.

Our 13 year old golden died on Monday evening. We don't know what happened to her but she suddenly got very lethargic and couldn't do anything but wag her tail. She lifted up her head, looked at my wife and then me, went limp, and that was it.
We're grateful to know that the last things she saw was us and I'm going to miss her so. The most beautiful soul that I've ever encountered.
RIP Dixie

Yea that sucks..
My mutt is the only one in the family who never argues with me, talks back, and is always happy to see me.
I WFH and he’s my companion all day. I hope he has a other 5-6 years…

What a heartfelt and stirring tribute to one of God's most precious creations.
We don't deserve dogs, but they are God's most perfect gift to us as all they ever want to do is be with us and make us happy.

One of life’s toughest moments.
Peaceful, humane end to prevent suffering is what you are doing.
Does not make it easier. Hang in there!
When pain subsides, focus on the 15 wonderful and meaningful years.
Life bites…if you resist by trying to hold on. Not designed that way for whatever reason. Embrace all the good times and no suffering.

Jovie knows your heart and knows you’re taking good care of her. She’s where she most wants to be and that’s with you.
