That's about 75000 gallons...if this is true and they didn't check your meter, youre lucky.

Does it work? Yes.. And no, it doesn't have to be hot water, just in case you think that it is needed so the pipes will not freeze.

You just need a slow steady drip, it isn't going to cost you that much. It's much cheaper than having to deal with no water because of a frozen pipe.

I thought someone came in through the window above it. Lived alone at the time. Took a few hours before i remembered what happened and how i left it running.

Uh.. why?

As to the original question, I leave faucets dripping and cabinet doors open under sinks on the two bathrooms that are against an outside wall (don't think it matters about the cabinet doors, but my wife seems to think it does), but, as of today, I haven't put the little hat thingy on my outside faucets. Do those things really do any good?

Accidental. Washing hands, someone knocked on door, was gonna fill my water bottle for the road trip and forgot to go back in the kitchen.

Just as an fyi, up here in Ohio it's in the single digits over night. We don't worry about running the water, but our pipes aren't exposed.

If you have exposed pipes, you might have an issue if it gets in the teens.

Why would your landlord try and trick you into increasing your water bill? Does he also own the local water company?

I am looking at the extended forecast in the Baton Rouge area. Friday, Saturday and Sunday the highs will be in the 50s, lows in the 30s.. New Years Day... The high 39, low 28.. Holy shite... That's cold for us southerners.

I remember a few straight 20 degree days in the late 80s. It was brutal when we went out for recess.

Nice subtle, "I don't live in a trailer," brag.
