Minimum wage isn't meant to be a livable wage

She's 16 now so it's kind of whenever she wants. Ex wife is a real bitch though. She'll have some voluntary medical procedure like Lasik and the mom will send him half the bill because the agreement says he's responsible for half the medical bills.

I was using that as an example of a worst case scenario. If you lose your job, they calculate based on minimum wage scale. So, even if you're on unemployment, you will owe the lion's share of your income or you risk jail time.

Obviously, if you're making 5k a month the obligation isn't as onerous.

Play a lot of catch & eat bologna sandwiches, I’d guess.

I am. I just got really lucky, in a sense.

Not being financially fricked makes co-parenting a lot easier.

Yeah $700 more per month would get him out of the slums, which their daughter lives in too sometimes, and it's mostly meaningless to her. But she'll take him to court if he gets behind. She's ruthless about it.

Don't have kids you can't afford to raise properly.

Are you making minumum, Motown?

That's rough. I had a falling out with a girl I was dating, but that doesn't even compare to having to pay child support and all this other garbage.

Nah, not married and no kids. Just checking up on a friend from college today and she brought all that stuff up.

I simply can't wrap my head around making minimum wage as an adult, much less an adult with children. I've been working since I was 15 and have never made minimum wage when you count tips.

Blows my mind.

Me either. I made minimum wage for 3 months at my first job - $4.15 per hr I think. I got a raise afterwards and soon found another job that paid $5.50. All of this in HS

It happened to my wife. We are separated but I caught her having an affair and she didn't contest it. For 23 years she stayed home and took care of our children. All of a sudden she found herself looking for a job with no tangible skills.

She owes me a little over $300 per month for our two boys. She can't pay it.

Exactly. What you pay versus what you could be forced to pay isn't always equal.

States vary on how child support is calculated. In SC, there is more than one schedule in which child support is calculated.

If a person is seeking child support through DSS's Child Support division, the agency uses the schedule that doesn't take into account shared custody, which skyrockets the support obligation.

If a private action is filed between the parties, the court will almost always calculate support based on the schedule that takes into account shared custody, which lessens the child support obligation significantly.
