Driving drunk in this state is an accepted thing.

Some guy started a thread on the OB about how his shitty friend got 20 years for his sixth DUI and about how "wasn't that really harsh?"

Eff, no. It was way too light.

While waiting for the game, I will 'fess up.

I lived 40 miles from work. One Friday night, on the way home for work, I stopped halfway home at a pizza parlor. Downed a pizza and a pitcher. Went to the theater across the street and fell asleep in the movie.

As I continued home at the end of the movie, I started passing gas and it was really bad.

The cops had a big time checkpoint set up. They even had cops on dirt bikes at the tree line to chase down any runners. My car smelled so bad I had tears in my eyes.

Two officers approached my car, the older one was training the younger. The older one tapped on my window. When I got it rolled down, he leaned into my car almost in my face and said "How are you?' and then inhaled as fully as he could trying to smell alcohol on my breath. The fart smell was so overpowering, he developed tears in his eyes. He choked a little, then turned to the younger cop and said "You finish checking him" as he staggered off to get some fresh air. The younger cop assumed I did not have alcohol on my breath and just did the paperwork check.

I still see the look on that cop's face when he got a full breath of my car's interior.

Sometimes I wonder why Louisiana is one of the worst states in terms of education...and then I read threads like this.

Incredibly blessed to not live in Louisiana anymore and I hope I never live there again.

Many years ago. I was a recent college grad, it was early summer just after graduating and I had just started interviewing for HS coaching/teaching jobs.

In my car with a buddy of mine who was my designated driver. We leave a club in Mississippi and are in the middle of nowhere on a country 2 lane road. Road block close to the state line.

They give my buddy a sobriety test and then come to me and ask why someone is driving my car. I tell the cop we had been out and he was my designated driver.

I am arrested for public intoxication. My car impounded. My buddy is taken in and given a blood test, 0% alcohol content and he is released.

However, I spend the night in the drunk tank and have to pay a fine and pay to get my car out of impound all for the crime of being responsible and getting a designated driver to drive me home in my car.

Talked to a lawyer/friend, he said to just pay and forget about it and no one would ever know it was on my record...fight it and more people would hear of it and might impact school systems in the area opinions of me.

Oh, and I had to pay a bail bondsman as well.

Still pisses me off. Stress, hundreds of dollars of fines and a several hours in a drunk tank for doing what we are all told to do.

Either your "designated driver" smarted off to the cops, or you were shitfaced and hollering at them while falling down drunk. Maybe both.

I have used the cops once, and I would gladly have just handled it myself if it meant not having cops.

To be fair the reason you have only used them once is because they keep the criminals locked up and underground so you haven't needed them. If cops went away and the prisons emptied this country, ESPECIALLY certain areas in the South, would be war zones like you wouldn't believe. Sure you might think its fun to fight off groups of thugs and its very possible you could but what about women on the streets?

Neither of those fit the elements of public inbox where I work. Just because a driver is arrested for DUI, does not all of a sudden make the passenger(s) a danger to themselves or others.

I find it funny that they follow out most of the cars pulling out of the bulldog to try and pull them over for a DUI, but just a couple minutes away they watch hundreds of 15-19 year olds in tigerland leave the bar shithammered and drive home without bothering them.

That was the last time I drive to a Perkins area bar. uber is king for me now. Paid 34 dollars last night to uber from downtown to my friends house at Jefferson, which is pricey because there was traffic (might've been a checkpoint ironically), but I'd gladly pay that to not have to worry about that shite anymore.

That's a notorious hotspot to get popped. BD must not be paying the proper bribes.

Cops around here don't do shite but write traffic tickets, dui, and bust people for minor drug charges.

They are not worth the hassle.

If they want to have a major crimes Dept and SWAT to handle the once every other year occurance of something crazy happening then fine.

But the bullshite patrols just put looking to pick the public's pockets can all go find a garbage truck to ride on because the only other job they would be qualified for.

And the "Drug Task Force" each country has can all go suck a dick too.

Drank too much wine
Fell asleep while driving and hit the curb
Cop pulls up
I tell him I fell asleep
They do a FSC
They look at me
They tell me "tow truck will help you out, have a good night"
I thank the Lord Almighty
I never drink and drive again
