It depends on how much you weigh and what kind of program you are on. Your leverages also play into the dl. If you are in decent shape and 200 plus lbs you should be able to pull 405 in a few months on the right program.

I don't do heavy deadlifts, scared of hurting my back. I just did them today though. I did 2x15 at 155lbs and 3x12 of 185lbs. I'm 6ft 200lbs. I just started doing deadlifts a few months ago, always avoided them for some reason. I have noticed and increase in overall strength since starting.

Of course. As time goes by, you'll feel more comfortable with adding weight. Don't be afraid of more weight.

Thoughts on rack pulls?

I currently DL once per week. I have been on the 5/3/1 program for about six or seven months.

Rack pulls are good if you have trouble at lock out. I don't recommend them until your poundage is up and you have been lifting correctly for some time. Beginners and intermediates really dont need rack pulls. Also don't use straps.

The bar should be as close to your shins as possible if you are doing regular dl and not sumo. Wear long thick socks.

I 'm doing the strong lifts 5 x 5 and I just started in Jan 1. I add 5 pounds to each lift each week. I'm at 205 on the dead lift 5x5.

Yes, but I've found that more often than not, people scrape their shins because their hips are too low. Deadlifts are not squats. When I focused on my hip position, I all but eliminated scrapes. That being said, I admit I am no expert.

Are you still going up 5lbs per week? As long as you can make those gains on straight progression like that stay with it! Do you do any accessory work? If you are having problems where is your sticking point?

I'm 6'7" and find that I really can only do sumo style DL. I just can't get a good position with regular DL.

Sounds like a candidate for rack pulls.

I pull 315 10x's til failure after 3 or 4 sets of graduated weight.

If I did a warm up for 2 sets, I'm pulling 4 plates easily at least 5 times. I don't care about a max. I just want the satisfaction of knowing I'm strong as an ox.
