his has historically been the case everywhere I've been. Me and the good ole baw network will go out to the local hamburger joint, mexican joint, or whatever we feel like and dine like kings during our lunch break every single day and we aren't massive hammies
probably because they ate like this for a few years of having an office job.
I haven't really found that to be the case. Most of the fat people i worked with were fat because they ate like shite and used every excuse to have cake in the break room.

This isn't true at all. You have unusual experiences.
quote:First of all, genetics had a lot to do with it. Just about everything related to your health from your teeth to heart disease can be affected by genetics. Why would you think weight would be different?
Is this all some facade they put on when they are around their associates so they can blame their largeness on "muh genetics" or "muh thyroidz", all the while they are grabbing two baconators and a milkshake on the way home every day?
And the second part is true. They hold it in all day and eat non stop at home after work because they've been starving themselves all day.
I was one of them. I ballooned up to over 300 lbs after I retired and stayed that way for about three years. Now I've lost about 40 lbs and feel a lot better, but it's a struggle to crush those appetite urges. I used to eat a biscuit every morning, Strawn's for lunch and then get some McDonald's on the way home before making dinner. Then finish it off with a bowl of cereal before bed.

Because their co-workers start threads on TD complaining about how fat they are.

They eat too much to compensate for a lack of love. Why don't you do your part to make them feel loved?

According to statistics nearly 70% of Americans are overweight and 35% are obese.
according to statisitcs, a 6' male is overweight when he weighs over 184lbs, and is obese at 221lbs
Have fun weighing 155lbs as a male while the 'obese' 225lb guy rails your wife b/c he actually looks like a man with muscles and not some pussy that isn't strong enough to open a pickle jar.
I have no desire whatsoever to be what your statistics say is a healthy weight for a 6' male. You might as well be a transgender if you're going to be that tall and weigh 150-160lbs.
You know that Odell Beckam and Tyrann Mathie are overweight, and Patrick Peterson is near obese?

But you just named professional athletes that are nearly all muscle. So I guess you think all OT posters are built like OBJ, TM, and PP.

I am fat. 5'10" 225 lbs. got a nice beer gut and I sit in a cubicle all day. I eat what I want and rarely exercise. I drink 2-3 pints of Guinness 3-4 out of 7 nights.
The truly fat people (think Rebel Wilson and Kevin from "The Office" )have one thing in common: Snacking incessantly and drinking soft drinks.
They are never not eating something. They are always cracking open a new can of coke. The amount of empty calories they consume is off the charts.
I am fat but I keep from getting "holy shite how is his heart still working" fat by never snacking and never drinking anything but coffee, water and beer.

I wonder how many people in this thread criticizing fatties are skinny fats themselves.
I have way more respect for actual fatties than skinny fats.
There is no difference between obese people and skinny fats. They have the same leptin set points, same eating habits, same muscle mass. Skinny fats are at the same risk of health issues as obese people are. The only difference between a skinny fat and an obese is that obese people just have the genetics that cause them to store more fat.
Skinny fats think that since they are not a 600 pound bed ridden whale like the mom on Whats Eating Gilbert Grape, that they are in shape and have the high ground to criticize, shame and make fun of obese-fats.

You think pro athletes are the only men in shape in this country?
All i'm saying is to say 70% of the country is fat is retarded.
You can have a 6' 230 lbs guy be in incredible shape, and you can have a 6' 230 lb fat arse.

You realize you are at the same exact health risks of obese people, right? You still have the same risks of diabetes, heart failure, sleep apnea, and so on. Based on your eating habits, beer drinking habits, and lack of exercise, the ONLY difference between you and an obese is genetics of fat storing.
Skinny fat is just as bad as obese fat in terms of health.

I was definately fat when I weighted 184 pounds and I am 6 feet tall.
I am now at 156 pounds and 10% body fat and I look WAY better. Go to the PutDaForkDown thread on the Food Board and find my before & after pic I posted. I was 187 in my before pic, and looked like a total fat arse. But according to you, I was normal.
My 154 pound "after" pic I look way better. No fat, visible abs.

It takes years to change your set point.
Your set point is basically your brain telling you how much you need to eat.
This is why people eat so much, their set points are high. There brain is always telling them to eat, because humans evolved in a different manner, feast and famine societies. Their brains had them overeat in periods of abundance to store fat for when there were periods of scarcity.

Some of what you're saying is true, but that is not the definition of set point. The set point theory is the theory that your body has a certain weight it is meant to be and that it will fight against going any lower than that number. It is just a theory because it has not been proven. I personally don't believe in it, but plenty of people do. The set point theory has nothing to do with eating.
I think it is a dangerous theory to subscribe to because people use it as an excuse to not continue working hard to lose weight. They decide when they've hit a long plateau that it must be their set point and start proclaiming that their body won't allow them to get any lower. Which, physically, is untrue.
