A saturated soil absorbs more water than dry soil,,,,never would have guessed that

Let us talk Flooding in Ascension and surrounding areas

It rained 10 inches in a few hours. That's all low land with plenty of rivers, bayous, and drainage ditches. What did you expect?

Don't tell me what to talk about.

They tried to get a dedicated road tax last year or so and it was shot down pretty good

Why should I vote to give them more of my money when they squander the money they already have? Nobody seems to be able to explain why they are spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to put a round a bout at the intersection of Parker and 929, I go through that intersection multiple times a day and never have to wait more than 2 (and rarely that many) cycles at the 4 way stop. Parker terminates a half mile down the road, why spend money on that intersection that needs no improvements when there are so many other places the money should be spent? If these idiots are making that stupid of decisions with my money, I will never vote for them to get more of it.

I know the state will get the blame, but what happened at 42/Airline is a fricking travesty. They helped (somewhat) 42 in the morning only to completely screw 73/Airline 24 hours a day.

ETA: putting blame on the state just reinforces that Chris Loar and his do nothing council need to readjust their priorities.

I'm glad they are expanding the rec services and hope they continue. I actually support a local idea to build a sportsplex at Lamar Dixon and host major sporting events (high school)

Did your house with vinyl siding make it through the floods?

It did fine, staying at my vacation home in Galvez right now so it doesn't really matter. It's elevated so I should be fine.

Well then why don't you run for office and fix what's broken? Or support someone who does and get active?

Whether they are squandering money or not the infrastructure in Ascension parish sucks. Wouldn't a few more four lane roads be nice? I'm not particularly happy with those rocket fricking scientist in the BR Council (although we have no one named Needlenose) but I support my city and when they do something I don't like I let them know and actively find someone else.

AMEN! And if Chris Loar runs for parish president and wins expect more of the same bullshite. All of this uncontrolled growth has happened under Tommy Martinez with no drainage or infrastructure improvements to handle it. If you have lived in this parish long enough you can't possibly blame the flooding on the amount of rain. The money is there and is not being spent properly.

I think this rain would still have caused flooding, but 48 hours in and some places are still holding water.

Maybe rec stuff should be handled by private organizations until the parish can get some priority stuff under control.
