I guess your comfortable that every friend of your kids that ever visits your house is also well versed in your do not touch the guns policy.

You would also be surprised what a kid trying to look at a gun would be able to reach.

Im not saying your not a responsible gun owner, but an accidental discharge killed a friend I grew up with.(one friend was showing another his dads cool gun)

Having experienced that, i keep my guns in a safe and I keep my home defense gun in a biometric lock box. I will also ask anybody who my son visits if they have loaded weapons kids could access. I would rather be overly cautious than lose my kid.

The number one reason I hate guns. Not calling for banning them. Not all gun owners are idiots, but it appears that all idiots own guns.

Sometimes there was a loaded shotgun. I work nights and my wife wanted it just in case.

Do any of those prevent the gun from going bang when someone unintentionally pulls the trigger? No.

Glock blowhards are the fricking worst. I bet everybody who's ever shot themself in the arse while holstering one has at some point said "my finger is the safety."

Handguns, especially striker fired handguns without safeties, are dangerous as hell.

The comments about you are more South Park episode. The entire town of South Park sent their kids away, banished them from South Park because the statistics showed that most child rapes involved one of their parents.

The hypocrisy is what gets me. You shouldn't need a reason to own a gun in this country, but if you're going to suggest it is for safety, you cannot truly believe that if you've got loaded, accessible firearms around your house with kids. You're better off saying nothing.

Wouldn't happen; I don't plan to leave my CCW at home much less where a child could get to it.

Let me add to your emotion....I have multiple and they are not locked up and they are loaded and ready. I have kids and all have witnessed the power of guns, both by watching others shoot and also by shooting the guns themselves. No kid can fully fear the power and destruction of a gun until they see it and feel it first hand. When that happens then the respect and FEAR of handling guns is all too real. I sleep comfortably knowing my kids properly fear the danger of guns.

You are not accounting for teenage suicides. How comfortably will you sleep once your children reach pre-teen and teenage years? Still going to keep loaded, unlocked guns then?

Teenagers are impulsive and only think in the moment. Teenage suicide happens to teens of all backgrounds and socioeconomic statuses. That breakup, bad grade, whatever feels like the worst thing happening to them and they cannot see to the other side of it at times. I've cared for numerous suicide attempts of teens(taking pills, attempted hangings, etc). None of those were attempts with a gun. For those teens I cared for....it is very likely I would have never cared for them if they had access to a loaded gun in their home....cause they would have just used the gun instead and it would have been a suicide instead of a suicide attempt.

I'd like to know how many of yall's homes have been invaded, ever. Are you actually that afraid?

My father shot a home invader when I was 8. As a result every home I have owned has kick/ram resistant doors and reinforced/laminated windows. Also have an alarm, which more or less just alerts me when there is a break-in. All of my guns are locked up. I have speed vaults for pretty much every room in the house with a firearm ready to go.

Takes me 5 seconds to get a gun ready, only place I am at a disadvantage is in the shower if I don't hear a break-in.

I have no less than 3 guns easily accessible in my home. Each with a round in the chamber.

No kids have blown their heads off with them yet, cause I don't have any.

Not having kids is the most effective way to keep one from eating a bullet.

Nothing wrong with that and very understandable considering your past. I have no issues with people wanting to protect themselves. Just make sure you are protecting your children in the process. Remember a child, no matter how smart they may seem, still has a very immature way of thinking. And they easily want to impress others. And they get bored easily and try to find creative ways to have fun. How many accidental shootings are because the child wanted to show their friends their parent's gun?

Last year cared for a toddler.....that grabbed mommy's loaded gun....out of her diaper bag of all fricking places. The kid was looking for their sippy cup and shoots their leg instead. Thankfully the child was ok.

The SJW mentality is what gets me. I take other safety measures besides having loaded guns in my house.

If a gun owner can't properly teach their kids about gun safety and flipping hide their guns where the kids can't find then then yeah you're better off saying nothing.

I have loaded guns in my house where my wife and I know where to find them. But honestly, my kids are not stupid enough to go play with guns. I mean, play stupid games....

Just for you I'm gonna put my loaded pistol on top my night stand for the rest of the week.

What is does a SJW mentality have to do with being a responsible gun owner?

You should teach your kids about gun safety. No argument there. However, depending on their age, there is no justifiable and logical reason they should be loaded and easily accessible.

It doesn't work this way with kids, but whatever.

Hopefully this comment is a sign that your entire contribution to this thread has been a troll. That would be a good thing.

I grew up with unlocked guns in the house and I would still sneak into my parents room and show them to my friends. Luckily my dad never kept them loaded because I was a dumbass kid that did a lot of stupid things. I'll probably keep my handgun in my safe as long as my kids are young.

You are playing stupid games. Your kid may know what he's doing, but his friend probably won't when your son is showing off your loaded piece. I know I know, your kids know better. I bet they've never once disobeyed you, especially if there was peer pressure to do something or show off something. A 10 year old compelled by his friends to show off will trump the teachings you've given.

Also doesnt work that way with kids friends.

Your kids might know gun safety, but daddyless Johnny from down the street doesnt. Why not prevent something thats easily preventable.
