That's fricked up. My name can be shortened in a similar way and I've always preferred the long/complete version, but never once I have corrected anyone about it.

In fact, people always misspell my name. It has a rather unique spelling (not in a black way, it is spelled the way my Scandinavian ancestors would've spelled it) and 99 times out of 100 I just let people spell it how they want. What's the point of correcting people?

There used to be a Donathan that lived with his grandparents briefly across the street from my parents when I was growing up
