Is “40 days not counting Sundays” considered cheating?

Asking for a friend that really wants a beer.

I think it’s a lame excuse. Either do it or don’t do it.

No. Sundays are feast days.

But giving something up for Lent and taking advantage of Sundays is lame.

Why do you care what others’ opinion is on this? It’s your fast. Do it how you want.

This is how all Catholic priests get their start. One little nibble can't hurt...

I don’t know, it’s a message board. Isn’t that kind of the point?

No one, including Jesus, cares.

If you want a beer, have a beer.

No.

Sundays are not part of Lent.

Again, keep in mind that the decision to give up something for Lent is an individual one, and the individual may set the parameters.

Is There A "Sunday Exception" During Lent?

I’m sure one of the first questions you’ll be asked on Judgment Day will concern your lent practices and your interpretation of cheat days.

Lent is 40 days. Sundays are not counted in those 40 days. A great many Catholics are not aware of of that, or a t least not back when I was Catholic.
