The guy is trying to milk you. If he didn’t understand what “ as-is” means he can learn now.

I wouldn't. He'd probably try to spin that as some type of admission or something. Dude sounds shady.

Who was the mechanic? Curious as I am in the market for a classic.

As is ,where is. No warranty, written, expressed, or implied. You drive it across the curb and it falls into two pieces. Both pieces are yours.

I don’t see how he could have a case against you. In my opinion the buyer’s only hope would’ve been the mechanic saying in court that he told you about something and you covered it up, but that is not what happened.

I’d say

Dear Mr. asshat,

I made every possible effort to describe the car as accurately as possible. I gave you every opportunity to have any and all inspections you required and I went above and beyond to acquiesce to anything you asked for prior to the sale. The details of the sale were spelled out very clearly and those terms included “As-Is” as a term of the sale related to the condition of the automobile. These were both mutually agreed to and the deal was executed. If I would have known this deal would include a “try on” period of you enjoying the car to see if you really liked it before completing the deal, I wouldn’t have sold it to you or even have entertained the deal.

Considering that you are now in titled possession of the car, I consider the car yours and any obligation on my part to satisfy any further requirements related to the deal simply don’t exist.

I hope you enjoy the car as much as I did.

Have a nice day,
