can anyone explain what I need to do in order to lease a piece of my property to someone? I've never done it before.

A) Contact an attorney and have a standard contract drawn-up
B) Have lessee sign said contract
C) Make sure lessee does not violate said contract

That would be my best guess...

that was really one of my concerns. do I have to go through an atty or can I draw up a contract and simply have it notarized?

Don't use an attorney, just go ahead and give them the property free of charge.

I would imagine that there's something out there on the internet that would cover a general contract. I mean, as long as the both of you sign it, then it could be on a napkin...

I like the CYA that comes with an attorney, though.

if I were to lease a piece of property to a friend to build a home on, would I need a lawyer or would a notary be sufficient enough?

I would definitely get an attorney involved if he's building a house

What are you leasing the land for? Hunting? Cattle? OGML?
Contact attorney like everyone said

You don't have to? You can use legalzoom or some other website or try to write yourself. Personally, I would use an attorney just to make sure I had all the legal i's dotted and t's crossed.

If true, the guy leasing the property is the one that needs the attorney. How do you build a house on leased property? What happens when the lease is up? Even if it is for 99 years, eventually that is going to be a problem for someone.
