Had a good friend at church who got into riding bikes with his sons. His wife eventually fell into the same situation that you describe. She became somewhat comfortable, but apprehensive about riding. One day they went out riding around Lake Travis near ATX. She had said she didn't feel right about the trip that day and went along anyway.

They never really figured out what happened to her, but she died that day. After realizing she was no longer following them, they backtracked and found she had gone off the road and faceplanted on a large oak tree. Her husband found her gurgling blood and any attempt to saver her was in vain. She left behind three kids and a husband all in an attempt to be part of riding with the family. She had no business being on a bike and it cost this family dearly. As cool as it would to be to ride with your spouse, I'd seriously consider the consequences.

Get her a massive life insurance policy so your beneficiaries will be comfortable.
