Anyone have experience with any sites?

My 13 year old son would like to learn Spanish and we are looking at Rosetta Stone, Pimsleur, +Babbel, and lingoda.

Any recommendations? Waste of time and money?

Get yourself the Duolingo app. Used to be amazing before they added in the ads. Still ok.

Also for something easy without the ads, check out the Beginner Spanish with Spanish obsessed.

Use this to see if he is really invested. It is free, and useful for basic concepts and vocabulary

If he is really into it, invest in this program. There are often massive discounts that can help you.

I don't think it's a waste, but if he's interested in it, have him take it in high school. One of my regrets tbh.

I second this. There's no substitute for person-to-person communication as you learn. It'll help with the pronunciation too.

I suggested the same thing to my wife. Lol.

Appreciate the replies.

He has friends from South America that he competes against every summer and he is wanting to be able to speak with them next summer.

Right now they use Facebook messenger as a translator.

I took Spanish 1 and Spanish 2 in high school and made B’s.

I can’t speak Spanish at all. I know my letters A-G. I know my numbers 1-12. And I know some random nouns like car, lettuce, hands, towels, chicken, house, etc.

That’s about it. Shows how much you actually learn in school...

And two years in hs satisfies college requirements. This probably being the biggest reason why I said to just take it free in high school. If one wants to continue it, then do it lol

Rosetta Stone is expensive and slow as hell. I stole it off of the internet, and could only put up with two weeks of it

The only foreign language my school offered back in the day was French. Took 4 years of it, what a fricking waste.

I learned Spanish by marrying a Latina.

It's worse than you think. While I don't consider myself bilingual, I think the phrase in bold is English.
