Laying sod on muddy top soil?

So, we had the yard at the camp leveled out and we were planning on laying sod this weekend. It seems like it has rained 40 days and 40 night, the yard is pretty soaked and muddy in places. This weekend looks like we will have some nice weather. Will it be okay lay the sod even if it is pretty muddy?

Seems like it could rot the roots but I don't really know.

This sounds like a euphemism for anal.

You may want to see a doctor.

i actually soaked my yard with a hose before putting down the sod....
was told that actually helps the new sod root into the ground better.
EDIT: hand no issues - Centipede

Sod'll move more when you walk on it than if you laid it dry.

I think the best practice is to lay it on dry soil, soak the shite out of it then roll it.

Have a garden rake available to level out your footprints before you lay if it gets that bad.
Someone in thus thread will say to roll the sod. Rolling the sod with uneven muddy soil will do nothing. Rolling it in general will do nothing, but feel free to make it look smooth by pointing the blades the same way.
Also, if Alabama gets this rain tomorrow you will not get sod Saturday.

I prefer to lay down sod on very wet top soil.
But I've never done a whole area, just patches. I walk on it with my feet after to mash it down. But may not be advisable on large area.

The amount of water under the sod has little to nothing to do with it living.
It is all about how much you put on top of it once it is down.
It is virtually impossible to over water new sod. Even if you have a full yard sprinkler system it is impossible to overwatsr the first week.

And the euphemisms roll on.......

what's the first thing you do after laying sod? drench it in water, roots are already in need of water from being cut, rolled up, compressed and trucked across the country, are you going to tarp it in case it rains?

If thick, really wet mud, don't do it without putting a layer of something dryer down. Either wait for it to dry a little or bring in some more dirt.

Some people have a problem 'laying the sod' in 'muddy soil.'
