Lawnmower Experts - Need help

I own a Toro 42" deck zero turn. about 5 years old
The metal housing around the exhaust / muffler was rusty and now broke the little weld that was holding it together.
Other than being louder than before, I noticed no difference in performance but I shut it down anyway.
Is there any inherent danger to cutting as is before I get it fixed?
I know nothing about fixing them and normally have it serviced and whatnot and just cut, never monkey around with it.
TIA - I'd post a NSFW pic but I'm posting from work so apologies.

not gonna bother it at all. Like you said, outside of being louder, there are no other issues. I would get it fixed at some point though so it doesn't drive you crazy

No issue at all. Drive that bastard until blades start flying around the yard.

I think this is probably offensive to some of our resident Hispanics.

Thanks - that bastard gets hot and I burned the shite out of my arm once. Not surprising that the weld gave out.

Wait, so the heat shield rusted off, or the muffler rusted off? If muffler, you need to replace it (not necessarily immediately, but soon)

The basic cylinder around the muffler. Muffler itself is still in good shape as far as I can tell.
I am going to get it fixed soon I just want to cut it this afternoon before I skip town for the weekend.

Ah, so the heat shield. It's not really important. On small engines, it usually keeps you from burning yourself too bad on the muffler

Believe me, you can still burn the shite out of yourself on the shield. Instant crusty skin. Heard my arm sizzle before the pain hit. Scar still there a year later. Just a dumb move but it taught me a lesson on that mower.

I've burnt myself on heat shield before. Fricking looked like a pepperoni

Heat shield no big deal.
Muffler assembly you can order the part and put it on yourself if you can bolt a new one on.
Ideally you should not run an engine without a muffler is the right answer.
Can you run it without the muffler, yes.

Mind if I hijack his thread a little, seeing as how your question has been answered and you have summoned lawnmower experts?
The spark plug blew out of my Toro 22" Recycler walk-behind so I pulled the head and put in a heli-coil. Now it's time to replace the head and I accidentally bent the sandwich-type head gasket. Can I straighten out the gasket and re-use it? Maybe in conjunction with some Permatex? I don't want to have to wait for a new gasket to come in the mail.
Thanks in advance.

Honestly the only way to find out is to try it. There are no guarantees though.
P.S. How the frick did a spark plug blow out?

OK to run it. Shouldn't harm the engine.
I suggest mowing very early Saturday morning so your neighbors can appreciate it too.

You might actually get another 1/4 horsepower out of it
