I have an Echo weedeater. It's a great one but this season it is doing something strange. It will start up and run fine when I first crank it up. But then I cut the front yard, turn it off, and a little while later crank it up to cut the back. And it never fails that after it has run for a while (front), on second start it will sputter for several minutes, dying if I go full throttle. Rinse and repeat. I usually have to perform another full cold-start to get it running again smoothly. Anyone have any idea what might be the cause here?

I have also had several echo trimmers and eventually the fuel will degrade the diaphragm in the carb and it will harden and not run right.

You can replace the entire carb for $50 or so or rebuild it for $15 or so in parts.

My best guess based on the info.

You using Ethanol gas? If so I would switch to 100% gasoline and see if that makes a difference. Visit this link to find a station near you. LINK

Its carb related
Run that pre mixed fuel in the can and see if it helps.

Take the carb off and soak it overnight in a carb cleaner.. Try that before you replace anything.. Also if you have an air compressor blow out all the jets once you have it off.. Make sure the butterfly valve in there isn't sticking

All just a few options to try before replacing the whole thing

My echo did that after a few years. Run some lacquer thinner through the engine, then put the gas/oil mix back in.

I learned my lesson after having to junk a blower, two trimmers, a stick edger, and a walk behind edger. I've had no problems since switching to ethanol-free fuel several years ago.

You can try some Seafoam first to clean carb, if it doesn't help, probably easiest to just change carb as you can find them in Amazon for about 20 or 30 bucks. After its good to go again, start using trufuel and never look back.
Had carb problems at least once a year before I did that. Since then, none. Starts right up every time. I used to have the same problem you are having often with my echo also.
