Daily Iberian

quote:

Louisiana Water Co. has requested water customers in Iberia Parish — including the city of New Iberia and the village of Loreauville — reduce the rate of flow of dripping water and/or only drip pipes on an intermittent basis.

The last 24 hours have seen a tremendous demand on the water system and overall water use in Iberia Parish, which has diminished the capacity of the water treatment plant, water storage facilities and pumping systems to keep up and maintain normal operating pressures, a LAWCO spokesman said. Since below freezing temperatures are expected over the next 20 hours, LAWCO asks customers to make every effort to conserve or restrict water use.

I'm sure some people are just running full blast like idiots. Plants are designed to deal with pulses throughout the day (mainly breakfast/supper times)

Let me get this straight: a water supply company cannot keep up with customers upping their water usage by...fricking dripping?

This was at work and they turned the water on like full blast. Went and turned it down because I wasn't convincing the women of the office that it didn't even need to be on. They were convinced we were under a hard freeze warning at noon today when everything was melted.

Just shook my head.

Just needs to drip or run a slow as possible.

Idk but according to my parents it's a disaster. Grandparents have no water pressure at all. Parents are down to a trickle. Apparently there were a few breaks at houses as well and water ran all day.

A good bit of those houses are built off the ground, leaving a whole lot exposed pipe. I would imagine this prolonged freeze has exacerbated the situation. I'm also sure you have a lot of elderly afraid of broken pipes.
I grew up there. This is the first time I can recall such a request being made.

So now we're gonna poke fun at a natural disaster that killed almost 100 people?

Stay classy. I'm sure you're the first one to flip out when falcons fans make Katrina jokes.

Whatever it was, it took the Cajun Navy to get them out of it.
