Private school tuition is generally upwards of $45,000. LSU law is $21,000 per year.

doesn't sound too bad, but taking everyone's advice into consideration it will require some careful consideration before taking the plunge, thanks

Why on earth would you retire and then voluntarily go to law school? Audit a few classes you are interested
There was a 75 year old guy in some of my tax LLM classes at UF, but I don't recall seeing him in finals. He wore a blazer and rode his bike to class everyday no matter how hot and humid it was, he always looked like he just got out of a swimming pool he was so soaked in sweat. I never did talk to him to ask him what his story was. I always guessed he was just auditing some classes he was interested in. 75 seemed a little late to be getting a specialized degree; this still bothers me that I never talked to him

Yeah, but that may change.

Back when I went, there were a lot of scholarships available if you did well on the LSAT. Also, if you were Law Review Editorial Board in your third year, you got a tuition waiver (and got to park with the professors.
If you do well, you can make a big chunk of tuition back in summer clerkships.

The movie "Conspiracy" involved a number of executives in the Nazi party planning the extermination of the Jews. Many of them were lawyers. It is a neat movie to watch in terms of the dynamics of the meeting (script was based on the only surviving transcript of the meeting) - some wondering why they were commanded to attend, some wondering what the hell was going on .... until they finally got it, and some wondering why they were there as the decisions had already been made and they were just there to rubber stamp it.
With the exception of the subject matter, I have seen these dynamics in corporate/organizational meetings more than I care to remember over the last 40 years.
However, there was one interesting quote during one of the meeting breaks when one officer asked another officer how he was using his law degree in the military. His comment was, "It has made me come to distrust language."

I think I read that New York is considering to make law school 2 years instead of 3.
The legal landscape is just changing. Law schools have grossly exaggerated the value of a law degree and the public has finally realized it.

that's the case with any profit center, which includes most post graduate schools, probably should do more to make it more exclusive, but just the opposite is probably a great contributor to the problem

It's definitely not just a law school problem. It's a higher education/money grab problem.

yep, seems like they would do well to get some input from the economics folks, if they supply too much of their product demand will fall off
wtf do I know? I'm just a dumbass pilot

At your age, unless you're ridiculously loaded, there's no reason to spend that amount of money and work 50+ hours a week in law school (at least for the first year) for no particular reason. Again, I'm no career counselor, however.
Only about 40 more hours a week more than I worked in law school.

from an academic/study time standpoint, based on my experience, I would expect to not have to really overdo it with hitting the books, I would even try to re-open the Bengal and Caterie
