We got on a bus at Chennault airstrip. We stayed a night at a shelter in Alexandria then were brought to new Orleans. We're being put up in te Hampton inn by the convention center. My dad is ok. I have two puncture wounds in my arm

Did those thunderstorms yesterday evening cause problems for anyone?
Got back to my house this morning. Our tarp held and most of my neighbors' tarps look secure as well. About to get these window units rolling, do some cord management, and string up some Christmas lights in the house

Glad your dad is ok — get those wounds looked at and a tetanus shot.
God bless.
God bless.

It started raining through the tops of a few windows, but no new leaking in the roof.
Fortunately, we had some guys professionally tarp our roof an hour or so before the sky fell down. Thank God!

SIAP, but seeing the complete rebuild of the electrical grid in the city got me thinking.
This is about the third time in 30 years the grid has been substantially wiped out. The big ice storm in the 90’s was the first instance I was thinking of, followed by Rita in 2005, and now Laura in 2020.
Lake Charles should really start mandating more underground electrical utilities. I know that’s expensive, but how expensive is rebuilding the grid every decade or so? At least this could happen on the major thoroughfares through the city so that the next rebound could be faster and wouldn’t have to be so comprehensive. Plus it would help beautify some of the main corridors. The poles down Ryan Street look podunk as hell. Just my two cents.

Still cheaper than going underground. Especially with our water table and ground saturation. There would be shorts galore if the insulation broke down. Then sosmone has to go underground and try to chase it down.
Nightmare

Fair enough. There still must be things that can be done to make the system more robust.
Perhaps more storm-proof poles down a few of the major corridors? I haven’t seen McNeese near Kirkman where there are big metal poles. But, if they did okay, perhaps that should be the case down Ryan, Broad, Prien Lake Rd., etc., to offer some defense against a total loss every few years.

And on the tenth day, Entergy said "let there be light."

Mine spent 3+ onsite today. When he left, I asked, “on to the next one?” He laughed and said, “oh no, I’ll be working on your claim the rest of the day.”
Apparently I got a good amount of hail. Roofs on house and shop are both totaled. Most of the inside too. But getting a new HVAC and ductwork out of it.

Thank you. We definitely got the worst of it. The force of the wind when we flipped was indescribable. And immediately after including the shock of the front door being the roof now was very disorienting. God bless.

Amos prior hail damage or was there hail in the hurricane??
I’m pretty sure we have hail damage from spring storms but no point in even getting it looked at at this time.

Another carbon monoxide death, but not from a generator. Guy and his girlfriend decided to sleep in the car with the AC on. She woke up, he didn't
Posted on 9/5/20 at 6:00 pm to Jim Rockford
I donated some carbon monoxide detectors to a friend yesterday someone that she knows in need. I told her that I wanted to help someone to prevent that awful scenario. I want to go and help but if I don’t know if I have the heart or stomach for it.
I’ve donated and bought and helped in that way — over time needs will still be there and maybe I’ll go then.

Man, I am loving this wind out of the north right now.
Can’t wait for that front in a few days.
