Should we be concerned about any of the disturbances in the open waters of the Atlantic? I want to get my gas, food, and tarps before everyone runs out.

We got power today in Welsh. I talked to the linemen as they were leaving the area they said they were continuing west that they would be in Lacassine area tomorrow as they continue towards LC to meet up with everyone there. Slowly but surely things will get better.

So can poles at least start being replaced while they rebuild substations? And then wire run??

I have no clue how this works.
That is what they are doing, installing new pole ahead of the substation repairs.

had to make a run to Westlake today and was a little surprised at how much damage it has. Maybe they aren't as far along in their cleanup but I thought it looked worse than LC.

No I have been to all the areas right after, Westlake was the worst and it already looks like a different city than last week.

Westlake call the eye wall the whole time, never got in the eye according to multiple people who stayed.

Assuming the transmission lines servicing that substation aren't damaged.

That’s what I mean by substations ready for power. I can’t imagine it’s many. They’re only bringing up one loop and I doubt it’s a drop in the bucket in the grand scheme of things. Little steps...

Heard a rumor from someone in the industry that state-level people at State Farm decided that because the whole area is out of power and usable water, that they will not consider individual homes uninhabitable and will not be providing any loss-of-use funds. Not only is that bullshite, but I'm pretty sure it's illegal. Anyone have info on this?

Pop’s girlfriend has State Farm. She said they wouldn’t reimburse her for a generator or AC, but they’ll give her the money to rent them.

Sounds about as logical as the federal government and FEMA back in the Katrina days.

A Government entity needed something and it costs X, but the feds would only pay if you rented it. So they rent it and pay double than what it costs to buy and they can’t keep it afterwards.

Ones I know where told it was considered a "community" problem not a "homeowners" problem.

Not sure if it was a specific state farm problem or others.

Also I know many have been told loss if electricity does not make the house unhabitable which is bull shite. Loss of water does due to unsanitary conditions though.

Man, I could not imagine having to deal with insurance folks down there right now. It sounds like Verizon got a tower up and/or repaired in Westlake area. I had a conversation with my son last night that wasnt totally scrambled and or disconnected...

Entergy plant in west lake puts out 25% of power supplied to LC, and looks like metal spaghetti from what I’ve heard

The two cogen units at Westlake chemical also supply power to the grid in a partnership. We work on them. They were actually the first suppliers of power to LC after Rita. Hoping to have them online soon. What's hard about these big gas turbins is when coming up from a cold startup you have to warm everything up so they expand all together. That can take 48-72 hours in some cases just to warm them to crank. It's unreal

Westlake looks amazing. They already repaired my entire street along with the one perpendicular to.me with the fire station and police Dept. They must have replaced 35 poles in a day. It's amazing.

Yea but they need a good bit of electricity from the grid to get them up, and they have major electrical problems and faults they have to fix first before cogen can come up. Will be a couple weeks.

That's awesome. Any idea what the expected time line was?? Just curious to if it's perhaps moving quicker than they thought it would in some areas.

I'd be writing a receipt for them for a "rental" damn quick. That makes no sense. Way more cost efficient to buy that rent, no?

Re: State Farm -- we have friends in Esther, La (not far from Pecan Island) that said whomever they talked to at SF by phone initially said "we're not covering this, this or that" .. guy said "how the F do you know -- you haven't even been out here?" and hung up.

Guess I'm glad that I don't have SF.

Day 9 without power. The pronouncements of Entergy and our local leadership are becoming less and less believable.
