They hype it up. But it's ok I understand why they do it. It's about getting people out.
Hype is probably a good word. I don’t believe they make it up though. They’re flying around trying to sample the highest winds, but you’re just not going to get lucky enough to have aN incredibly well built wind gauge at the exact beach location of landfall. We got close with the pass, but we missed it.

Best guesses,
Will the eye go over LC, or slide to the West?

At 100 AM CDT (0600 UTC), Doppler radar images indicate that the eye
of Hurricane Laura has made landfall at the coast near Cameron,
Louisiana, near latitude 29.8 North, longitude 93.3 West. Laura is
moving toward the north near 15 mph (24 km/h), and this motion
should continue through the day.

Prayers to all in the path, I'm hitting the sack. A rather anti climatic performance turned in by the chasers after the goat events like Harvey and Michael brought us. Riding it out in a parking garage? dudes are getting soft

People tend to overestimate the wind they're in, so it kind of evens out.
Nah. Just like OB posters don’t overestimate the seas they were in either.
