I would think they just turned in everything instead of editing.

They’re doing their press conference right now.

This is a shite show

ETA: They’re going in on the registrar. Seems like Wilson & her office have no clue what to do with a recall and couldn’t answer a lot of their questions.

Meanwhile, a second batch of documents produced at the end of a five-day grace period on Feb. 27 consisted of photocopied duplicates of the first batch.

"Our supplemental list seems to be a duplicate. A complete duplicate of the original," said Duplessis-Hammond. "They were copied forms, they were not the original documents, on the second batch that were submitted to our office on the 27th."

That was why more than 99% of signatures in that batch were invalidated, officials said.

"It was a duplicate of the first batch," Duplessis-Hammond said.

WTF. Why would they even act like they had been successful if the second batch was just duplicates? Did they think it wouldn't get noticed? Definitely some kind of frickery going on here.

Eileen Carter says they turned in 100k signatures, which is a hell of a discrepancy

This continues to be fascinating, while the local news shrugs it off and the registrar laughs about Disney names on a sheet

Someone boldly lied today and I’m here for it to be sorted out

Should be easy to prove by her. Turn over all the copies.

Not going to discount shenanigans, but she can easily give proof.

So zero concern for actually recalling the mayor

I've commented on this in other threads...not sure I trust either side 100% but I can say this, there is no friggin way they turned in 100K signatures, legit or not. That would be almost half of registered voters in Orleans Parish.

IF I was in charge and had that many signatures everyone would have known that weeks ago. The fact that they are just saying the 100K number today doesn't make any sense.

Remind me, how does a sheet that is thrown out being included or excluded from the submission actually move that needle?

I tend to agree, UNLESS, it’s something like they turned in an initial 30 something at deadline and then turned in the entire 60 something at the close of the 5 day window

100k submitted with 30k dupes would possibly reconcile some of this nonsense? But would find both of them telling some serious half truths.

I don’t particularly like the organizers but it sure is bold to claim you have the signatures while just turning in a photo copy of the thing to double your total? Something seems real weird here. Eager to hear Eileen and noonie respond. They should be run out of town if they were second lining on the stairs knowing they only had 30k

Its likely something as simple as they hired a bunch of people who didn’t actually go out to get signatures and trusted they were legit w/o checking them all.

That doesn’t fit with what either side claimed today

So starting to see confirmation come out

34k given Ash Wednesday
67k-ish given 5 days later, including original 34k (essentially a full and complete submission)

Thats technically 100k turned in, and the recall folks said the higher number today because the registrar said there were 30k dupes in the second submission without acknowledging the nature of it being a full set. Basically if you are saying you tossed 30k dupes, we will count the dupes too and you can explain the balance from there

That would leave us with the registrar not actually addressing why nothing in the second set was accepted - but instead mocking a Disney page

Someone’s walking away from this in shame or in cuffs at this rate. I’m not picking sides on the mess but today doesn’t add up for one or the other

Trying to get the two in charge to explain why they held the 67K (or 33k) for 5 additional days is going to be the key.

Did they know they were shite, or were they not independently verified? Either way neither excuse would really make sense.

Want to get into a conspiracy, see if the supplemental 33k were all from regions not included in the original NOLA.com analysis. If those 33k were somehow kept separate and sway the 'demographics' story that was pitched really hard.

Likewise the registrar will need to coherently answer some questions.

But someone has to start to tell the story instead of just laughing at Disney names. I think it’s a real red flag that the registrar had that page as their big showcase. It was clearly meant to mock and discredit, not to tell a coherent story of what they received. It paints the registrar as opposition instead of neutral, if you step back. But too many people are eating it up still tonight. We will see where it goes. A court room is coming if Eileen’s being honest in her numbers.
