re: Latest Updates: Russia-Ukraine Conflict

It works both ways. Attacking force takes more casualties than defending force as a rule. In the east, Russia is having to attack uphill to ridge crests, even if Ukraine falls back from Bakmut there is another ridge line going north and south with Siversk at the northern end.

Lol no, that would involve war with NATO. Clearly Russia wouldn’t stand a chance.
Don't believe that Russia is done after Ukraine. They won't stop until they are forced to stop. And in between they will blackmail and bluster every country that they can. Europe is pretty weak.
If you're Moldova, you can kiss your arse goodbye.

If they want to be able to claim any sort of victory yes. But I think they’ll wait to see how Ukraine’s counteroffensive in Kherson shakes out
They’re waiting for Ukraine to train their pilots on flying their newly donated jets. Another goodwill gesture.

It is easy to zero in on a skinny small stretch of land. There is nowhere to run to except the sea. Russia has already resorted to using troops with zero training in the east for months, and up to 65 years old regardless of medical condition. This is why Russia says casualties are not that bad, it is expending 1000's of troops with zero training who are not citizens of Russia. The same with its Wagner Group, chock full of Russian Neo Nazis who are not officially russian military so they do not count their casualties

Ukrainian F-16s are months away from happening. And they’ll probably getting like the 1990 version of the jet.

I think you are too tunnel visioned to evaluate your opinion against a different opinion. You are reflexive. But keep on keeping on.

Damn you violated our agreement, just like I said you would. Well at least I have my Zima.

No OML. No, I'm just thinking through the possibility that Russia will not stop until the take all of Ukraine and then Moldova. And then they start to harass Poland now that they are on their border and then while they are at it they take actions to deny any aspiration Georgia may have along Kazakhstan. I'm considering Russia indeed wants to change the world. Now we can argue that they don't have the resources to do that and they may not. I just am not tunnel visioned into this eastern Ukraine thing. Throw in harassing Romania and any "free country" along the Black Sea. Perhaps I have the cart in front of the horse. But I wonder about things and what position that would put the US in. And isn't that a little what this thread is about? Ok, Ok, Ukraine only.

Well my assumption is that they are working with limited resources that they are willing to commit to the fight at this time.
Their whole plan initially was pretty weird.

I also don’t think Putin really gives a shite about the timetable that much. Of course the longer this drags on the more time the west has to train the Ukrainians on cool shite like HIMARS and F-16s. Putin may be betting that western popular support will sour after a while because we have a tendency to have short attention spans and get bored really easily.
I really think that's what he's going for. He's hoping to drag this out until winter. It seems like a well-timed operation could drive Western popular support down right as you could maximize whatever leverage Russia may still have with O&G. Maybe that's what he's aiming for.

He’s no hero of mine, maybe take a break from the internet and the news, it’ll probably do you good.

I've been following this thread for a long time, and I don't recall anyone singing John Bolton's praises...maybe it happened; where's your proof? You must stop wishcasting things that didn't happen to make your arguments. It just makes you look dumb when you do it.

Why do you support Nazis? You know you do after all many if not most members of the Wagner Group (named for Hitler's favorite composer) are Russian Neo Nazis even with SS tattoos

That’s why I mentioned landing just a couple of battalions. The whole point of the operation would be to tie up Ukrainian manpower and resources away from the counterattack on Kherson.
This would result in a repeat of their experiences at the airport. You can't just drop a couple of battalions on the ground without the ability to resupply them.
The original Russian invasion plans were pretty clear, they intended to rapidly take the coast north of Kherson and come into the eastern flank of Odesa while at the same time launching an amphibious attack from the sea. When they failed to make any substantive progress beyond Kherson they had to abandon the landing because the troops would be cut off and isolated...then destroyed, just like at Homstel Airport.
That same dynamic is at play today with any landing they try to carry out.

Yeah, to take Kyiv, decapitate the government and install their people. If it would have worked we'd be talking about something else perhaps more ominous.

True...AND we wouldn't have any idea that Russia's military is the paper tiger it has turned out to be.
