Not a commercial but the early scene with the Suburbans from "Clear and Present Danger" (1994) always stuck with me.

Once I was in the market for purchasing a 2001 model, guess what I bought?

(A close clone of this one:)

Nothing comes to mind that I've purchased because of a TV commercial.

If anything, their commercials can only hurt them. No one is going to start drinking coke b/c of a commercial, but they sure as shite will stop drinking it if they make a commercial that is offensive.

You see the same major advertisers every super bowl, and i cant' help but think that they just wasted a ton of money that they will never recoup. Coke, Pepsi, Bud Light, Doritos, etc. There's no way they see an uptick in sales b/c of their commericals. Now somebody new like GoDaddy getting a superbowl ad and people hearing about them for the first time? i can see that paying off for them, but Coke spending tens of millions of dollars on superbowl ads is just dumb.

Reason #1, is that advertising and promotional expenses are 100% tax deductible.

just b/c you say they are tax deductible doesn't make it free somehow. You still just spent millions of dollars.

#2, is that while they may be established, they still need to stay at the top of your set of considerations. Basically, creating a high-level of awareness that they are simply still there. Brand affinity declines if you don't keep reminders out there.

You ever seen a Funyuns commercial? me neither.
Have you seen a Little Debbie commercial this century? i haven't, yet my kids eat the same Little Debbie snacks that i ate in the 80's.
