Salt Lake City to me and it’s not close. Extremely friendly and one of the cleanest cities in the US. They were honestly sweeping leaves off the sidewalk as they fell off the trees downtow.

If you consider PIttsburgh large, I spent like 24 hours alone there and went to a brewery, Pirates game, and casino. Everyone was super friendly and wanted to talk and make sure I loved their city

This is the realistic answer.

I totally agree and find friendly/nice people everywhere - just discussing people's general experiences here.

Also, there is definitely a happiness/misery component in the equation...

I'd put Atlanta at the top for my own personal experience.

I would not either. That is a crime infested city.

OKC for nicest people big city...

Even some Midwest City area gangbangers have a heart of gold...
Saw some decked out fellas helping some church people across the tracks...
Even south side little Mexico the people are kind, even if they don't speak a lick of English...

I considered retiring there. But nuclear powered tornadoes are a thing.

Large US Cities with the Nicest People

Not sure what qualifies as a "large US city", but I think Memphis is the friendliest by far. The folks I've met there are mostly very nice people and they are fully aware that their city isn't the center of the universe. OKC is up there too.

In my experience, Houston, Detroit, Atlanta, and Chicago people are much nicer than the big east coast cities. NYC is standoffish and could come off as rude to southerners, but it isn't actively being an a-hole like Philadelphia is.

Minneapolis is also a disappointment if you expect friendly, down to earth midwestern people. "Minnesota Nice" is sort of a facade.

New Orleans isn't big enough to be a "large city", but I'd categorize it with the other old, established cities with a very clickish populace and parochial attitude. It's actually not very good for a southern city.

Of the places I've been, Minneapolis seemed to have a lot of shockingly nice people

Maybe I’m biased, but people are overwhelmingly nice in Nashville.

People are assholes in SF.

Minneapolis was my first thought, as well. It was surprisingly clean/well-maintained, too.

Definitely not New Orleans. They’re fricking arse holes. I almost whipped two super dome employees asses at the Auburn/Oklahoma sugar bowl two years ago.
