Evacuating was a good option

Not everyone is an OT baller with the capability to up and leave with a days notice. People have animals and kids and elderly that they’re responsible for. It’s easy to sit there and say evacuate but there’s more to it.

Were there any "official" evacuation orders for this area?
There are some that would wait til a "mandatory" evacuation orfer before leaving.
Not that they're being hard headed, but just heeding official advice.
A "voluntary" evacuation order does not carry the same direness as a mandatory.
And some folks will just wait for that.

Parish President called for a mandatory evac late Friday/early Sat. This area flooded from Cat1 Isaac. Should not have needed anyone to tell them to evac for a Cat 4.

Thanks for the update.
Then, I agree, these folks should have gone somewhere.
I know it's not easy to do.

We have a bunch of pets that would make it hard for us to up and evacuate on a moment's notice. Hence, that is one reason I don't, and can't, live in a area such as this.
However, if I did, I would have preplanned something. Like having a truck/ RV in order to carry my family and pets to higher ground when needed.

Unfortunately, some people can’t afford it as well. Right, wrong, or indifferent, some people can’t afford to evacuate and roll to a hotel.

I really wish more people would realize this. Even for people with means, evacuating on relatively short notice can be difficult. For a family with little money, unreliable transportation, no family/friends within a short driving distance, etc., it's exponentially more difficult. So tired of the immediate reaction to call these people stupid. Yes, some of them think it won't happen to them, or they have the survival skills to survive, but so many others simply can't because they can't afford to.

Some do also stay behind for their pets.

At this point you can not say shoulda, woulda, and coulda.

The people that can get out just have to help them. My boat stuck no damage with a tree infront of my boat port. Unless it turns into a dozer it is stuck.

Mandatory or voluntary doesn’t make a difference if you do not have the means to up and leave. Like I said it’s not that simple like the news makes it out to be.

And many people refuse to accept that lifelong resident have seen dozens of storms that turned out to be nothing burgers; so they are reluctant to bail every time.

The biggest variable is often, if you leave, it might prove really hard to get back - and many rather be there in their property than as a refugee.
