Unlike the Moon, Mars has dust storms regularly. Spirit and Opportunity's solar cells would get covered in dust choking their power until a dust storm would blow it away.

That would indicate that a good bit of this stuff is recent.

Kids complaining about opportunity and housing prices when there is an entire planet they could settle if they had just a bit of gumption and could go without avocado toast for a week.

I knew it. Humans are going to land on Mars before we get another Mississippi River Bridge for Baton Rouge.

Why are they protecting the identity of the rover?

I don’t think it was censored, it is probably a stitching of several small photographs into one 3D image and the Rover was outside the range of the camera.

Just think of this it could take days to get that much high resolution imagery from Mars over current communications technology.

quote:

Curiosity can communicate with Earth directly at speeds up to 32 kbit/s, but the bulk of the data transfer is being relayed through the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter and Odyssey orbiter. Data transfer speeds between Curiosity and each orbiter may reach 2000 kbit/s and 256 kbit/s, respectively, but each orbiter is able to communicate with Curiosity for only about eight minutes per day

At those speeds, anyone over 40 will remember these days of the internet:

I didn't know they had turkey's or buzzards on mars.

Funny what the mind can see in shadows.
