Yep. You can't reduce crime in a town that is majority minorities and immigrants.

Lake Charles has been nothing but declining in the past 10+ years.

There are nice pockets like everywhere else though. LC is weird in how there’s random trailer parks in the middle of the city.

It never felt like a South Louisiana city to me. Always felt like an extension of southeast Texas. Albeit, LC seems to be still a step above Beaumont. Correct me if I’m off here but Beaumont just doesn’t seem to have much going for it

This is strange considering all of the industrial projects that have been going on for the past five years.

This might be the most ignorant take I've seen in a while... and that's saying something. Don't speak on things that you have absolutely no clue about, please. You just worry about East Texas...

False....but LC used to be what I called "recession proof" due to the local industries. Between the hurricane and Bidenomics, its been a rough 4 years for LC.

If tied to living in LA, then LC is pretty high on my list. Its over BR, NOLA, Laffy, or anywhere North LA

Yep. Lived just east of Louisiana Avenue for years, then it went to crap. Bought this house just west of Louisiana Avenue as this area was "better." Shooters fled to those apartments south of us by where Moss Regional used to be. A few were caught last night within a few hours. Quite literally getting too closed to home tho.

you live in a bad part of town...of course you are going to see and hear those things.

that area hasnt been good in 20 years or more

The context of this whole topic is lake Charles crime. Not lake Charles economic development

Yes, somewhat further back in time. Do you recall when Johnson Hall was built at east end of Cactus Drive ?

I believe that to be the genesis of the decline of the neighborhood.

That neighborhood across from Walmart has been a slum my entire life. I just assume it was built that way.

Beaumont, Baytown, Lake Charles are all the same thing.

Blue Collar bases for the big money.

Lake Charles economy is unlike most any have seen around the country. They have blue collar workers that make 100K after they pull all their overtime and live like Doctors!

LCH is also oversaturated with attorneys and doctors. Its kind of amazing.

na he is talking about johnson hall....it is/was an apartment complex off 5th ave. it was set off way back with a road that entered off 5th ave

it is abandoned and has been for some time but at one point was the highest crime in the city and had essentially become a housing project that rivaled that of NOLA.

here is a video LINK

he is wrong though as that area has been going down hill for longer than that

in the late 80s and 90s people were moving out and away from oak park, white flight if you will. Doctors no longer found it prudent to live near the hospital especially with other hospitals south of town popping up.

In 83 the merger of Boston High with Lake Charles high is really what kind of started it along with the growth of Barbe in the 80s as the predominantly white public school of the area and the growth south of town facilitating that and the growth of SJ welsh as the predominant white public middle school.

anyways as they moved out and away the wealthier blacks moved into oak park and the process continued with the cheaper housing being filled with poor black families. this continued and what was/is left in that area is as bad as ever.

The Grenwich Terrace neighborhood is mainly the other side of the interstate off 14 and outside of johnson hall has been the worst part of LC for years now. the flooding a couple years ago essentially has made this area half a ghost town full of crime.
