Would love to know some more details on this one.

quote:

The Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office has arrested a 78-year-old Cut Off man In the cold case murder of a Golden Meadow woman in 1977. Chester Vegas Sr., 78, of Cut Off, has been charged with second-degree murder in the shooting that killed his wife at the time, Diane Vegas, who was 32 at the time of her death. “We hope this arrest can begin to bring some closure to the Vegas family who have been living with questions about Diane’s death for nearly 44 years,” said Sheriff Craig Webre. “New information combined with the initial investigation helped us build probable cause for the arrest.” On October 10, 1977, deputies were called to a restaurant called The Chicken House at 1908 North Bayou Drive in Golden Meadow. They discovered the body of Diane Vegas inside the restaurant with a single gunshot wound to the back.

quote:

Chester Vegas was considered a suspect until the investigation went cold. In October 2020, detectives re-opened the case and got new information that led to establishing probable cause for Vegas' arrest. A warrant was obtained on June 11, 2021. Detectives made contact with Vegas on Friday, June 11, and he was placed under arrest. He was booked into the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex in Thibodaux on one count of Second Degree Murder. He was released Friday night after posting $50,000 bail. We covered that case in 1977. See our original story from that incident below:

Well, at least no one can say they didn’t follow up on it.

Happens more often than you might think. New DNA evidence or a guilty conscience, maybe.

I’d think DNA or someone finally putted the old man. Maybe he confessed to someone.

Odds he’s found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound before the trial?

I meant an actual self-inflicted gunshot wound. You think an 80 year old wants to go to prison?

I read some comments from the granddaughter. She said everyone knew he did it, but it was covered up back then.

Bobby Hebert is from Cut Off

Considering how many games he cost the Saints, I wish it had been him

There is very little about prison that would bother an 80 year old. Sit around and watch TV and shoot the breeze all day.

He may need medical care which the state will provide 100% free.

Not sure how that clown ever rehabilitated his image. I would say that about 80% of Saints fans were relieved when he left the team, at that time.

Bobby was also a major driver behind the rise of free agency in professional sports (which is great for the players and "muh free market" but mostly sucks otherwise).

And of course he's a ridiculous T-shirt LSU fan who went to Northwestern State. He's just a reprehensible human being in every way, and the worst South Louisiana stereotype imaginable.

I found it odd that they decide to reopen the case, and then new evidence is found. That’s too big of a coincidence unless I’m reading it wrong.

Also curious about the guys life since 1977. Remarried, kids, etc?
