In their guidance on reopening schools in Lafayette Parish, LPSS says that they have delayed the start of school to ensure that employees have time to be trained, practice safety protocols, and to prepare for an effective start to the 2020-2021 school year. The academic year will begin on Monday, August 17, 2020 in Phase 2, which will remain in effect through the end of the first nine-weeks on Tuesday, October 13, 2020.
“For weeks, our district and school leaders have been working on detailed plans for reopening schools in a safe manner using the Louisiana Department of Education's Strong Start guidelines,” said Superintendent Irma Trosclair. “Now that the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) has met, and we know the LPSS plans align with the standards set forth by BESE, we are ready to share our plans with our community. These plans were developed to be student-centered and also ensure our educators are well equipped to do what they do best: engaging with our students and inspiring a commitment to lifelong learning, in a safe manner.”

Looks like some folks will have to adjust their “1on1” time with their pupils

So only 2.5 days per week? Will the hours be increased or the school year stretched longer?

A&B day kids will be based on their home address. Odd numbered addresses will go on A days, even number will go on B days.
Probably a good way to try it out. In Georgia it’s all or nothing which is fricking stupid because they’ll have a huge breakout of the virus and shut everything down again.

According to the plan, kids will be required to complete work at home. They link the low cost internet for low income families, basically $10/month through ATT, Cox, and I think Fiber

A days will be Mondays and Wednesdays and alternating Fridays.

Seems kinda silly to choose it based on the numbers of your address. Kinda fricks up car pooling or neighbors riding together.

Nobody car pools. Have you seen the lines wrapped around the schools impeding traffic during drop off & pick up times?

It's NOT the state job to watch your damn kids

And blocking driveways. If I lived on Roselawn, I’d be a freaking Karen.

at this moment, seeing what all these south LA parishes are doing, I am actually glad to be living in Shreveport

elementary is fully open, 5 days a week, with the option to go virtual if you choose
middle and high school is the A & B nonsense

You know, when my kids were younger we ALWAYS found a way to make sure they were “watched” as you say. Kinda seems like that is the responsibility of the parent aka caregiver.

schools never closed for months at a time when your kids were younger either

I’d still find a way now and not bitch whine and complain about it.
