Can anyone recommend an oncologist in Lafayette? I've been seeing my current one for roughly two years, and I'm just not 100% convinced he's actually listening to my concerns and doing everything within his power to treat my serious treatment-related side effects that have developed.

Thanks

I think Iluvlsu uses an oncologist in that area and seems very satisfied. She is not on much, but if you catc her signed in, she may help.

Get on I-10, drive west 3.5 hours, walk into the M.D. Anderson ER.

Dr. Cain at the Cancer Center of Acadiana.

That's who I'm currently seeing. Would recommend.

A few other people have recommended Cain also. Thanks.

Migraines, vision problems, brief moments of discoherence, chest pain, extreme fatigue, sharp neck pain, abdominal cramping, diarrhea, hip joint pain, burning sensation in the knee, numbness and tingling in extremities.

Sorry man, you asked. :)

Melanoma is in check for the moment, but the treatments seem to have fried my circuits or something. Just hoping some of these can be knocked out because they don't seem to be going away, despite the fact I ceased treatments two months ago.

That's not how to be seen at MDA. Make an appointment. The ER there is for current patients facing emergencies.

Second the Michael Cain vote. He's good.

An oncologist in LA will not be insulted at all if you want a second opinion at MDA. They will even refer you if you want.

Did he at least put you on gabapentin, elavil, cymbalta, or anything? Kind of hard to cure fibromyalgia/IBS type symptoms. Would probably go to someone else for the side effect symptoms. Oncologist is more worried about keeping you cancer free.

My oncologist retired after my surgery. He said he caught testicular carcinoma (me) at stage 1 and fought off stage 3 breast cancer in another patient at the same time. He went out with wins after only 20 years in.

Last I heard, he volunteers in a clinic in the marignay (sp) and may teach history at some college in NOLA. (Maybe Tulane)

I wish you the best. Keep fighting and know we are praying for you

Assuming you received immunotherapy and based on the symptoms perhaps combined checkpoint blockade. Alternatively BRAF/MEK inhibition which is definitely tougher on average than single agent Nivo/Pembro.

I think the issue for you probably isn’t getting another oncologist. I’d favor recommending you get a PCP who can spend more time on symptoms if that is possible. The oncologist is going to either be reviewing your labs or arranging your scans or reviewing scans etc.

I assume you are referring to Medical Oncology and not Radiologic Oncology.

A very good one is Dr. Sager in Lafayette. I believe she is affiliated with Lafayette General.

Yeah, that seems to be what he's doing.

Already been to MD Anderson. They're on hold for now.

Started with Yervoy. Then a clinical trail at MDA with T-VEC. Keytruda for the last year and a half.
